Not sure as to why such a historic place is not mentioned in must see places in Los Angeles. The staff very intelligently and diligently has recreated history here by preserving number of historical artifacts that was used to construct this depot in 1903. The depot is using cutting edge technology named as digital command control to present those visiting this place the detail recreation of Santa Susana and the coast line. This allows visitors to see the focal point of rail transportation as early as 1903 created and constructed by Southern Paciffic railroad. The depot exterior walls are adorned with tools which includes semaphores, searchlight signal, a black indicator and many. Just as you enter the depot the visitors also can see 1929 Chevrolet truck which was used for delivery. If you are a history buff or a railroad enthusiast this place is A place to visit. Unfortunately the museum is opened only on the weekends from 1-4 pm. Brave...
Read moreAmazing hidden gem! My friend and I went here to kill an hour or two and we were not disappointed. Firstly, staff was super nice and eager to educate and answer any train related questions. Lots of very cool history, pictures, maps, and model trains everywhere. One of the members even gave us a tour of their 500-foot long model train set that follows the California coast and up towards Redding. They had their own system of working switches and software to manage it all. The depot itself doesn’t see much rail traffic pass by anymore apparently other than from Metrolink commuter rail and the occasional freight train on the weekends; but we were told in its hayday there were 40+ trains passing through daily. Overall, it seemed like a fun and inclusive place to hang out on a weekend. Definitely would recommend a visit and be sure to bring cash if you want to donate to...
Read moreWhat a delightful historic spot! Not only did the railroad agent/telegraphers work in this depot but they and their families lived upstairs.
A friendly and knowledgeable docent in full conductor garb led us thru the waiting room, office and family quarters--all filled with amazing period artifacts. The vintage kitchen is fun. We also got to try our hand at the old telegraph key.
A few miles further up the road is the Stagecoach Trail, a short easy loop that yields a panoramic view of the San Fernando Valley from atop the rocky peaks.
Highly recommend lunch in close-by Simi Valley at Green Acres market & BBQ. Had a great gluten-free chopped chicken salad there. Enjoy lunch outside on their...
