During my recent hike at Montalvo in Saratoga, CA, I was struck by how the experience invites you to connect with both the landscape and its rich history. Winding along the formal path lined with towering Italian cypress trees, I felt as if I were walking in the footsteps of countless visitors before me. Along the way, I encountered thoughtful markers and placards left by those who curated the gardens—gentle suggestions for how to savor each stop. One memorable example instructed me, as I stood before a magnificent stand of Cypress, to “look up.” I did just that, and found myself gazing skyward in wonder—the immense height of the trees was breathtaking, making me feel both awed by their grandeur and humbled by my own smallness. I had an extremely disappointing and upsetting experience at [Montalvo Arts Center ] on [June 22, 2024 ]. We called ahead to confirm that my sister could take photos for her 15th birthday, and we were assured that it was allowed as long as we left by 4 PM due to a scheduled event. Weeks in advance. However, when we arrived, we were quickly approached by a very rude and unprofessional employee [Bri] who hosted the wedding on (June 22,2024) who informed us that we were not allowed to take photos. Her behavior was harassing, inappropriate and unprofessional especially towards the minors, including my sister. Despite our explanation, she insisted that we couldn't even take photos with our personal phones and threatened to call the sheriff to make us leave sooner. To make matters worse, this lady took photos of all the boys and girls at my sister's party without their consent, and continue harassing the kids which is completely unacceptable. The whole situation was handled very poorly and left us all feeling uncomfortable and disrespected. I strongly advise others to reconsider visiting [Montalvo Arts Center ], especially for any special occasions. The way we were treated was unprofessional and inappropriate. I hope the management addresses this behavior and improves their staff training to prevent such incidents...
