Enjoy this 4.1-mile out-and-back trail near Cupertino, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 49 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are January through October. Dogs are not allowed on the trail.

It starts with Creek trail in a picnic area. There is a Creek with good amount of running water even at the end of August. Saw several people brought fishing pole to try their luck along the creek. They said it's for fun to catch finger size trout. The trail bring you to picchetti winery. The trail is 90% shady.

The Zinfandel Trail, nestled within the Picchetti Ranch Open Space Preserve near Cupertino and Saratoga, offers a delightful hiking experience. Spanning approximately 4 miles round trip from the Cooley Picnic Area to the Picchetti Winery, the trail is well-maintained and moderately challenging, making it suitable for hikers of various fitness levels.

Following recent rains, the trail has transformed into a lush, green haven. The rejuvenated foliage and occasional small streams crossing the path create a serene and picturesque environment.

The route is predominantly shaded, providing a cool respite during warmer days. Hikers are treated to spectacular views of the surrounding hills and, at certain points, glimpses of the East Bay mountain range.

Wildlife enthusiasts may encounter local fauna, such as deer and various bird species, adding to the trail's charm. The path is well-marked, ensuring an enjoyable experience for both novice and seasoned hikers. As the trail nears its end, the historic Picchetti Winery comes into view, offering a perfect spot to relax and perhaps enjoy some local wine.

In summary, the Zinfandel Trail provides a refreshing and scenic hike, especially vibrant after rainfall. Its combination of natural beauty, wildlife sightings, and proximity to the Picchetti Winery makes it a must-visit for nature lovers in the Cupertino and...

What a great trail, especially if you plan to hit the winery. There is plenty of tree cover through the ravine with live oaks and lush moss. The trail can be quite narrow in parts with drop offs to the side, which you'll need to pay attention to. You won't get any major views along your hike, but the trade off is being totally...
