Fun little island park, nestled in the middle of the Haw River in Saxapahaw, NC. Small, riverside trail that is dog- and kid-accessible with a few spots where you can go down and play at the water's edge. My 5yo was so excited by finding river clam shells!

There is also a unique and fun kids playground. It is dominated by a wooden fish structure that can be climbed and has a tube slide coming out of its mouth. There are logs and a rope spider web to balance on, plus swings and a building activity with bamboo poles.

One big negative is the lack of bathrooms: they have a maintained porta-john. Of the times I've used it, it has been kept stocked, the seat clean, and hand sanitizer was available for use. Just a heads-up on that.

Overall a fun half-day outing...

Oh, hike yes!

This is a great spot for getting in a nice walk without having to dive through the briars. I don’t know what I mean by that. Yes, I do. Basically, the island park is a great way to say you’ve been on a hike without having to actually go on a hike. The trails are narrow, the vegetation infringing on trail space just enough to call yourself “outdoorsy” without mucking up your clothes. Note! The sand might stain your sweet, new sneakers if the path is wet from rain. It’s a tiny island; so, expect to complete the entire loop in 30 minutes. This park is best experienced at a meandering pace with a friend, a full mind, or a great playlist. You’ll be sure to reemerge a little...
