very nice trail that is relatively flat and easy going. during the winter months it can get pretty slippery as the ice and snow melt and make the trail pretty slick. tons of prairie dogs out there barking at you the whole time which makes the hike pretty funny. no real shade cover so on a hot day it could probably be pretty brutal. Plus, if it's windy you won't have much protection from that either. with all the prairie dogs, tunnels and holes around I can see that this would be a very bad area for snakes and the summertime. plus with the tall grass you might want to watch your step. however, during the winter time it's really nothing out there, but you and the prairie dogs. One thing to note as others have said there's absolutely no place to sit which becomes critical as you hike through some of the taller grasses and things start falling in your sock/ shoe and you have to find a way to balance on one foot to get it out.

BEWARE! Some people just come and park and stay in their car for hours. I got there, finished my coffee went on an hour and a half walk came back did some emails and there's still some creepy guy in a suburban just sitting in his driver's seat never getting out. 14 parking spaces. Got here really early and there were only a few cars. Yes it's a prairie open space it's nice but the housing developments are creeping in. It's super cute to see all the prairie dogs. THERE SHOULD BE NO SMOKING OF ANY KIND ALLOWED AND MONITORED!!!

Great hiking trail with a majestic view of Pikes Peak and a small privately owned lake. You can't fish or get close up, but it's a gorgeous view and back drop. There are lots of prairie dogs. Be ready to be entertained as they call out to each other and hide as you walk by! The spectacle is quite entertaining. This ecosystem is stunning, where prairie meets desert. Free to enter. Open dawn to dusk.

Quiet place for a walk or bird watching. Look out for heat and snakes in summer. Sometimes the trail away from the lake gets very overgrown, as well. A few important notes: 1. No bathrooms. 2. No dogs allowed. 3. The trail does not go around the lake, it goes half way and then does a loop in the meadow. If you want to make a loop back to the main parking lot, you can, but it involves finishing the loop by walking on the road from the upper lot to the main lot. I have done it many times and it is fine because the road is not super busy, but there is not much shoulder to walk on at times, and the snakes also don't pay attention to fence lines so can be in the shoulder, too, fyi. That loop is over 5 miles total. 4. If you decided to try to cover every inch of trail in the park including the spur that goes down to Fontaine and the full loop up to Goldfield, etc., you would get in the 9-ish...
