I feel like this is one of the best kept secrets for beautiful hikes in Sedona. Parking in the lot across the street never seems to be full. There is a tower toilet in the lot and a can to dispose of trash. There is a decent amount of shade on this trail and it’s not terribly long. There is a sign that signifies the end of the trail too. If you go a bit beyond that you will see that you can climb upwards. There are a couple narrow spots and some close cactus friends, but it is worth the relatively short climb for the view from up there. It evens out into a great view of the canyon on almost every side. There’s a nice open spot to sit and enjoy or you can sit up against the rocks in the shade to cool down.
If you decide to be adventurous, there is also an arch here you can climb to! There is not a trail marked, so do your research before you head out. I would recommend having good trail finding skills in order to keep yourself safe and not disturb the area. There is almost no shade and it’s a pretty steep climb for most of it. I did this with my older kids and they complained a lot, lol. Teens might fair a bit better. The arch is very cool and it was a very peaceful spot to sit and recover. We did not go on top of the arch, but I have seen pictures of those who have! Next time we are definitely going to attempt it now that mine are...
Read moreThis trail is a nice one. Keep in mind that the water is all dried up right now.
We could tell that at times, the stream would be really pretty next to the path. At this time, it's all dried up. I noticed families bringing a picnic to eat at the "waterfall" at the end only to find there was no "waterfall".
It's still a great hike though! We were actually happy that the waterfall was dried up, because it allowed us to hike up farther beyond the end of trail sign up into the canyon.
That didn't add much time to the hike, was pretty easy, and SO beautiful, please see the picture of our view!
I would recommend it to anyone with older kids or without kids.
It's a beautiful hike now if you go beyond the trail sign, though warmer than you may think bring water it's hot. I'm sure it's also beautiful later in the year when the stream is going strong. The goal varies on the time of year but I would still...
Read moreEasy flat out-and-back trail. Vaulted bathrooms in large gravel parking lot. Trailhead across the street from parking entrance. Meanders alongside a dry creek bed and ends at the back of a wide canyon. Vegetation is higher, so views are minimal unless you climb a bit at the end of the trail (which I did and included those pics). Popular Devil's Bridge Trail is nearby as well, so this is a good pairing. 3 stars is because of the lack of trail views and interesting features for the area. I have read there are a couple of trail spurs off the end that add to the interest, but I did not pursue them - they were not...
