🥾 Little Horse Trail – Sedona Review
We couldn’t do the entire trail this time due to time constraints, but even the portion we completed left a strong impression. It’s one of those hikes where you quickly realize you’ll want to come back and finish it properly. The red rock views start almost immediately, and I was pleasantly surprised at how rewarding it felt even without reaching the very end.
🛤 Trail Basics
Distance: about 3.8–4.2 miles round trip Elevation gain: ~330–350 feet Difficulty: Easy to moderate—manageable for most hikers, including families.
🚶 Trail Conditions
On the part of the trail we ventured onto, the path was well-marked and easy to follow, with cairns making navigation simple. Parts are exposed with no shade, so bring water and sunscreen—Sedona sun can be intense even on a “short” hike.
🌿 Atmosphere
What makes this trail stand out is the balance—not too long, not too tough, but still packed with breathtaking scenery. It’s peaceful, scenic, and feels very “Sedona.” A great trail to bring visitors who want a taste of the red rocks without committing to an all-day trek.
✅ Overall: Little Horse Trail is a must-do if you want big views without a long grind. It’s accessible, scenic, and rewarding, with a beautiful mix of classic Sedona formations and that unforgettable Chicken Point overlook. Just plan ahead for parking and sun, and you’ll have...
Read moreThis is a great spot to start your hikes. Not super long. 2.8 miles to get to the Chapel of the Holy Cross. You can see so much stuff on the way. Bring a comfortable pair of hiking shoes or boots, and make sure they are broken in. You need the grip and stability. An absolute must do when in Sedona. The Chapel is so stunning. We will hike this again when we come back. The trail head is easy but you will need to get a red rock pass. Daily is only $5. A year long pass is only $20. Thats what we went with. If you get sores or blisters on your feet by the time you get to the Chapel. The Uber services are quick and very friendly here.
There are lots of opportunities for photos and videos. Be safe and bring the right gear. There is a hiking store in Sedona if you need something. ...

5.00s to park here but parking here is small so you either have to come here early to get parking or mid day when it's hot as we noticed there is no one really hiking during the heat.
This route takes you to the chapel trail which is ok but tiny, you have a better chance of driving there or if you go the other way to the chicken trail, you can go all the way around the ridge and end up coming back to the chapel. Took us 4hrs to do with stops in-between to take pics.
Over all an amazing trail with inclines, declines, and...
