Generally unaware of the vibrant Mexican and native American art scene around Sedona, we were merely on the look out for a couple of little souvenirs to take home from our trip. We received some recommendations to visit the Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts village and the touristy clusters of shops along N State Route 89A, both of which were nice for window shopping and to get a taste of the local handicrafts, but also quite a bit expensive. We chanced upon Son-Silver-West as we were driving along the scenic highway 179. The extensive display, spread across multiple rooms and an outdoor courtyard area, of ceramic, stone, wood, fabric, earthenware, and glass art pieces were of great quality and all very reasonable priced. We bought several glass items for the kitchen, tablemats, an exquisite 12 piece tea cup-and-saucer set in blue ceramic, colorful painted Mexican frogs for wall display, and numeral tiles for the house number plate. They offered to ship it over for a nominal rate, but we decided to purchase an extra carry-on bag instead to take the items back with us on the flight. We would have loved to pick up other art work from them; we were only limited by luggage space. We would certainly...
Read moreDrove by this place several times and really wanted to stop because it looked like they had a bunch of really neat stuff. I should have just kept on driving by. After browsing through their eclectic collection I found only one small item that I liked enough to buy and that would fit in my suitcase. My adult daughter wanted to try some of the prickly pear candy and they had some at the register with a sign that clearly said $2 so we added that as I was checking out. When they gave me the total it seemed kind of high, but I was in a hurry and just went ahead and paid. I guess I had sucker written on my face because when I stepped outside and looked at the receipt, I saw that I was charged $9.95 for this overpriced at $2 single piece of candy. I take the blame for not saying something immediately before swiping my card. To be fair, there are plenty of signs throughout the store that clearly state that they will charge you whatever they feel like charging at the time - something to the effect of “prices subject to change without notice.” So, yeah…buyer beware. Or, better yet, skip it altogether - don’t fall victim to this...

First off, what a beautiful spot, with tons of treasures and trinkets and old road signs. I was ready to spend good money here, but me and my friend were exploring inside the gift shop (the indoor area) looking at small trinkets on the front counter trying to decide which one to get. This extremely rude older blonde woman working there walks up to us out of nowhere, is staring at us, LITERALLY two feet away, for at least a full minute not breaking her gaze. I felt her anger as she quite literally snatched what we were looking at together and aggressively, loudly dumped out all the items on the front counter so that they spread out everywhere. And, she said in a huff as she violently took away what we were holding, “HERE! It will be much easier this way” and stormed off. I could not understand why she would have done something like that, it was more hostile than I can describe.
Emphasis on: we were absolutely going to buy something, and we were very quiet and respectful. I don’t understand what her problem was, but it’s not a good business tactic and it was extremely rude and unnecessary considering how...
