we booked a spot at steel head park and were ok with it when we arrived it was very clean. what we didn't like is that no longer than five minutes after setting up our site a guy came buy on a golf cart and said we need to put the dog on a leash at all times and we have to be quite after 10:00. well that just blew it for our group. We just got out of the city to get away from rules and regulations and enjoy the out doors, fat chance that was going to happen here. we asked for our money back for one night of the two nights we booked, we paid for one of the nights as we arrived so just to say after 5 to 15 minutes of being there they would not give our money back. Another thing we were unhappy about is that the sites are so close to each other that if you spit the wrong way you would probably hit someone in a site next to you. Well we left without our money and went down the road to Cascade wagon road campground and pulled into a spot right on the river (No sites like this one at Steelhead Park) so there is no water or electric here at cascade wagon road camp grounds, it is a more primitive style of camping (that is what it is all about to us). Dont worry about rules here just respect the other campers. there is a nice beach on the river just under the bridge and we were up till 1:00am having a great time with no problems. The owner Bob will come around and collect $10.00 for each night for regular spots and or $20.00 a night for group spots that can support at least 10 to 15 people. The bottom line is if you want to sit in your RV, hear every word your neighbors are saying, keep your dog locked up and sit in the hot sun with very little tree coverage, Steelhead park will be great for you. If you are looking for a real camping experience something you and your kids will remember for a life time go primitive and have fun at Cascade wagon...
Read moreWe enjoyed this little park. The camping was very nice. The sites are close but the angles mean you don't see much of your neighbors. Would be 5 stars if the had full hook ups but only have water and electric, no sewer but there is a dump station on the way out for $5. Feels like a dump should be included with your stay. The grounds were very clean as were the baths that had codes to use, so no day users. Rich and Karen the camp hosts were great and checked us in quickly. The site was clean and ready. Very dog friendly and long as your dog is on a leash and even had bags so you can be a responsible dog owner and pick up after your pet. They were also child friendly as long as your child was under your control and not running around the park.
There is a little trail there you can walk along the river and fishing was on fire even with a dry fly in July.
Most site were shaded or had some shade with a tree but check if you want shade or not and book a good site for your needs. There is a bar and grill across the street that is great to grab breakfast and dinner to take with you if going into the national park and doing some adventures, we did several hikes and had dinner at the visitors center by ourselves. Over all a nice week of adventures. If this was helpful or you are still reading this review give us a like. You can follow for more RV camping, food, and adventure reviews across North...
Read moreLove this well maintained county park. The campground is more like an RV park but has decent sized, level sites with water/ electric hookups, so we like to visit every now and then. Bathrooms with showers are available and have always been clean when we visit. The park has 2 sections; one for campers and another area for day use. Bathrooms in the camping section house the showers and require a key code to use. There is a covered Pavilion that can be rented in the campground area. There is a separate area for tent campers down by the water that you have to walk a short distance to, but it's a cute little area. There are playgrounds in both sections, but I think the campground has the bigger one. There is a boat launch and parking available but I have no idea how much that costs. There is an RV dump station. The park has trails, with one that I think connects to nearby Rockport State Park, which can lead up to Sauk Mountain if you wish but i think there is a small fee to park if you are not physically in the park. Dogs are welcome but are required to be leashed and picked up after. Bags are available. Rockport Bar & Grill is nearby and is a yummy place to visit. Overall, it's a cute little county gem that we love to visit. (Pictures posted are from 2 different camping trips and 2...
