Saw James Maddock (playing with Ben Stivers) two nights ago and LOVED this venue. It was the first time I had seen James live, and it was the perfect place to see him. Most of James' songs are carefully crafted to be listened to, not necessarily danced to, and I was impressed that people were quiet and respectful - not talking, shouting, clinking glasses, etc. I also loved those up front tables - well worth waiting a month to see if one's available after members have gotten their turn. They're also quite affordable if you have 4 people. I loved that James and Ben were so close. And while I didn't sit in the seats behind the tables, I was impressed that the floor is slanted so that everyone has a decent view of the stage. The acoustics were awesome, and whoever was back there doing the mixing did a great job. I was surprised that such a big sound could come from just two men with 2 instruments (keyboards and guitar). But then James is one heck of a talented guy, so I shouldn't be surprised. I also liked that ticket prices were reasonable, that live streaming was available for $10, that drinks are available if you want them, and that there's room and time for the performers to come out after the show to meet the guests. All I can say is that I wish I lived closer. But I would gladly drive 3 hours again to see the right person or band at the Sellersville Theater. And yes, I got permission from James to take and post a picture - he's as nice as he is talented. Please...
Read moreWe came here for a show in mid-July. I bought tickets online the day of the event. My cell signal inside the building was basically zero and there is no WiFi so I had to go outside to reload my tickets for the scanner. The employee scanning tickets was very nice about it though.
The seating goes straight back from the stage to the door. I am guessing this was a movie theater at some point because the floor is somewhat sloped so the seating rises as you go towards the back of the room and this means not to much struggling to see over other people’s heads. Even in row S we had a good view of the stage. The venue is pretty small. The seats are padded but weren’t the most comfortable I’ve been in. (Sorry no pic). They also weren’t the worst. The staff we interacted with were friendly.
The band we went to see fell a little flat for me. I don’t know if it was just the sound set up for the full band or if their energy was just low that night. The opening act however sounded great but that was just two people with two instruments.
Ticket prices were reasonable. Parking seemed easy for us. We arrived just as the show was starting and there was a parking lot across the street that we parked in. I had looked at the FAQs on the website before we came to find out about parking so we knew what to expect. We had no issues getting out of the lot...
Read moreSmall, beautiful theater with great acoustics. This would generally be all that it takes for five stars, but the way that they police standing was quite bizarre.
I attended a high energy Americana show which, in my mind and apparently that of several others, includes some handclapping, boot stomping energy. Instead of letting the spirit of the fans and the band be lifted, one employee walked loops around the theater aggressively pointing at people to sit down. At multiple points, the band had to question the lack of engagement from the crowd even though our heads were about to explode with a year and a half of pent up energy that we were prepared to release through dancing our faces off. Thankfully the band didn't let this impact the vigor that they played with, and eventually the masses overpowered the Fun Police, leading to some proper hip swinging and floor rattling animation for a few songs.
On a positive note, the COVID protocol was great, including clear dividers between groups and skipped rows to create distancing. This facility is a gem, but they need to understand their audience a bit more prior to a show if they want people coming back to...
