Let me say 1st off, We're NEVER Let down when we go for a walk across the bridge or when we find a spot to sit and admire the river.. It's always beautiful and one of my favorite spots to unwind and clear my head or sort my thoughts. If you're new to the area or just passing through, I definitely recommend stopping by and spending at least 15-20 mins to walk around and read the signs. Takes no time at all to walk up to the bridge and get a wicked good view of the River.. **side note for parents: the bridge has sides but they're not walls by any means.. Keep a close eye on your Littles-especially those who like to climb! The metal does get slippery when it's wet too so even if you're watching them while they get a better view, I suggest physically holding on to them just to make sure nobody slips.. i wouldn't necessarily say the bridge is dangerous, but just a precaution.. ⚠safety 1st ya know. 🤓 ) (it is also wheelchair and stroller friendly!) If you have the time, it's a super easy, flat, not-too-long, not-too-short walk to the other side of the trail.. There's nothing extraordinary at the other end-just a gravel parking lot and a nice bench to sit for a minute if you like.. However the trail has a ton of critters and birds and is just a great nature walk to relax and if you have a walking ,buddy it's great at inspiring some good ol' unplugged conversation. Aanndd, IF you're feeling up for a longer walk you could keep going out past the parking lot, and take a left, followed by another left about .25m to Mill rd and follow it up to Sunny Farms for a delicious pastry, or deli sandwich and Italian soda or coffee! I recommend trying one of their hand made ice cream cones- the flavors are made daily and are truly amazing! (*they have baby cones too!) If you don't feel like walking, take a seat and just watch the fish and the water flow on by.. It's a great spot to take kids in the summer. You can find shallow, slow moving pools for wading and splashing so parents can relax a bit too. And dogs love it too, but there is a leash rule, so keep that in mind. Lastly, there's the River Adobon Center which has been recently revamped and provides a ton more parking and even charging stations if that's something you need. The adobon center is a neat little spot to learn all about nature and has some cute gift shop treasures to take home w you too. All in all, it's not too fancy, but it's a perfect place to spend some time, (or the day!) just being able to unwind, enjoy outside, enjoy the nature, and enjoy each-other too.🌞 ( OH! I forgot to mention that during the winter holidays, they light up the bridge, and it's a beautiful spot to take some...
Read moreAuthentic hands on nature experience reduced to concrete walk way attached to a cool old bridge.
This was a 5 star park to our family even though it had no traditional play structures*because nature abundantly provided the play structures through the river, its banks, and surrounding nature trails.
I'm sad to say the natural outdoor experience has been greatly reduced by the many changes this park has undergone over the last couple of years.
Formerly you could park and have direct access to the river and water play underneath the trestle of the bridge ...That access is now gone _ replaced by the new bridge extension and fencing. The former nature trails that let out at the main river channel (off to the left of bridge )have also had access cut off , by being earthed in or choked up by all the trees they have felled for their newly manufactured side channel. The tree and vegetation loss for this purpose and even further from the recent storms is very great.
I guess these losses in favor of the salmon habitat (which is the claim/intent)would be worth it if the salmon could have indeed accessed these side channels...but the feeder side channel under the bridge trestle was totally dried up during the salmon spawning and no salmon could access it whatsoever...all being relegated to the main channel anyway. Perhaps this will improve in the future as we had a very unusually dry Autumn...I am by no means an expert on riparian habitat.
What it seems to me is if you used to enjoy coming to the park for sitting near or playing in the river or swimming under the bridge trestle *those experiences look permanently out and the nature trails likewise...but if you are looking for a scenic bridge and a paved trail to observe nature from a distance *you will still find that here.
The new gift shop and bathroom in the newly renovated/expanded River center are quite fancy as well.Eventually there will be a small museum inside also...
Read moreRailroad Bridge park is an extremely nice place to a walk back in time. As an old logging railroad Bridge this location is locked in history. I have this location on my bucket list as for a place to get a cinematic perspective and to test my skills as a FPV pilot. It is a truly beautiful place, and I look forward to having fun flying around/threw it. It is also part of a larger trail for walking and biking. During the spring and summer this location is a great place to spend time, whether it's cooling off in the river below or listening to the birds chirping in the trees. Railroad Bridge is a must visit when...
