This past Saturday, April 5, 2025, I had my father taken to LeConte Medical Center in Sevierville via ambulance. It was an emergency, and I couldn’t get him to UT Medical Center myself. I was forced to choose between the hospital in Newport or the LeConte Medical Center in Sevierville. I unfortunately chose LeConte. I followed the ambulance in my car and was able to be with my dad when he made it to the emergency room. After a considerable amount of time passed, my dad wanted me to go to the nurses’ station to see how much longer it would be before a doctor would come by and speak with us, so I did. Upon approaching the nurses’ desk, I was met with a condescending attitude from three “nurses,” one of whom was a registered nurse. I was told that his name is “Joey.” His attitude was flippant, and he treated me as if how dare I ask him (Joey) any questions concerning when a doctor would be in to see my 80-year-old father. Joey was the antithesis to being friendly or helpful in the stressful situation my father and I were dealing with. A short time later, my dad wanted some water. I visited the nurses’ station a second time to ask for a cup. When I simply asked for a cup to give my dad some water, Joey condescendingly said to me, “I’ll give you 15 cups,” then stormed off to go get the cups. I asked the other two “nurses” what was his problem, and one young assistant just smirked. Finally, I returned to my dad’s room and told him what had happened. He forced himself out of his hospital bed and we both went to the nurses’ station. My dad asked the young woman assistant why was Joey treating me with such rudeness. She defended him, and I said “No. No. That isn’t true.” Her facial expression changed on a dime. She became angry, quickly stood from her chair, and went to the head nurse who I believe her name is Emily Ballantine. The head nurse came to us, escorted by a security guard, and told me that I had “screamed” at one of her nurses and that I was being forced to leave. I was being treated as if I were a criminal. That young assistant nurse had told a blatant lie about me. I could see the hate coming from the head nurse’s eyes right at me. She hadn’t even been there to witness how her associates had treated me, but she treated me as if I was the one in the wrong. I told the head nurse that the way they treated me was not Christ-like. She didn’t care. She continued to stare at me with her hate-filled eyes. I told the head nurse that I was taking my dad to UT Medical Center in Knoxville. She took the IV out of my dad’s hand, leaving a horrible hematoma, and then we both left. There is no excuse for a patient or a patient’s family member to be treated the way we were. My mom, or any of our family members, were never treated in such an unprofessional way at UT Medical Center by any of the nurses there when she was dying of cancer. The way the staff treated us at LeConte Medical Center is totally inexcusable, and we will never be back. I highly recommend to everyone to steer clear of this abominable place. Read moreA little after midnight on Friday July 11th I had a serious issue with my arm that I had had shoulder surgery on the previous Wednesday the night. It was a sudden excruciating pain in my lower arm I had already taken my pain medicine and my shoulder was not hurting after a while this is very concerning I thought perhaps it might be a blood clot so my son and daughter-in-law took me to look at to the ER after I got registered and put in a room and mind you I was still in such pain I was having cold sweats and nausea after the ER doc finally came and she was immediately rude asked why I didn't go back to the surgery center, which is not a hospital but a surgery center that closes at 5:00 or 6:00 she would not stop with asking me that and continuously asking what I had done who did it and where they finally did a sonogram on my arm it showed good blood flow which is a good thing there was no blood clot and she kept hammering me with questions like why are you here who did your surgery what do you think you're going to get after surgery I had already said I did not want pain medicine she kept on and on and on and about the 7th or 8th time she asked me to describe what was wrong with my arm I was looking down at my arm to tell her and she got up in my face saying what are you telling me what are you telling me? She was trying to get me upset and being loud so the security guard would hear it by this time my son had come back from dropping off my daughter-in-law I told him what happened and he was very livid I had tried to get my blood pressure cut off while the doctor was in the room so I could leave because I thought she was crazy I couldn't get it off cuz I couldn't use my left arm she just sit there and glared at me and smiled. I have no idea what the hell was going on I had heard to never go to LeConte now I am certain. By the way at some point after I got there an elderly nurse or six of vials of blood test them on the counter and they stayed there the whole evening when I inquired about it like what were they going to do with it the nurse told me that the doctor did not order any blood work okay then why did you draw the blood? The doctor's name was Mary Frances Dukes and I will be fighting a complaint I worked in healthcare myself many years and this was total utter crap. Also I haven't read in some of the other negative reviews that this doctor is mentioned using the same tactics did she think I was just there after pain medicine after I told her I was not and that I already taken some? Read moreThis place is a sorry excuse for a hospital. I’m hoping the day shift is not as bad as the night shift. We arrived around 6:30pm with my 2 year old son, for an arm injury. My dad was carrying him on his back and went to pull him up and he started screaming. So we figured it was probably pulled out of socket but at first was not sure if it was his wrist or elbow. As soon as they took us back to the room we waited a good while for the X-ray techs to come in where they did an X-ray on his wrist, but not full arm. This was ordered before we ever even saw a physician. After the PA came in an moved his arm a little bit, we were able to determine it was actually his elbow, and was sure it was “nursemaids elbow” they ordered another X-ray on his elbow. The PA (not sure of her name) was a sweet blond lady, and she was the ONLY one out of everyone that we saw that had any bedside manner and seemed she genuinely cared. However, the PA, and 2 other MDs tried MULTIPLE times Resetting his arm and were all unsuccessful. They did not even offer him any Tylenol until I had to ask because he was in so much pain from them trying to reset it. The first doctor that came in said she even wanted to “monitor” it for a little while because since she couldn’t get it to “pop” back in place, he might had already reset it by itself and it was just still “sore”. That was definitely not the case…..after MULTIPLE people and MULTIPLE attempts it was clear they could not help my sons arm. So I requested our discharge papers as at this point it was 12:30am and we had been there almost 6 hours. I had to explain to them that we were out of town and lived in GA - so I had to ASK could they AT LEAST splint it or something to keep his arm supported until I could get him back home. As soon as we arrived at home, we took him to a CHOA urgent care - they reset his arm the first try, it look about a second, and he never even cried. Now we are having to follow up with a specialist orthopedic doctor to make sure the ligament is not “too stretched out” from being out of place for longer than it should have been. It is crazy how simple something should’ve been turned into a way bigger issue.
