Beautiful views of nature and river. Quiet and very peaceful. Kent Falls State Park is a short 5 minute drive. It’s a gorgeous park full of trails, waterfalls and nature views that are picture perfect. I camped at Housatonic Meadows with family and friends the weekend before Labor Day. The river levels were shallow and, we loved sitting in the river with our beach chairs putting our feet in the water. The reason I gave the park a 3 star rating is because the bathrooms were lacking maintenance. There are spider webs all over the bathroom walls and ceilings. I checked in on a Friday and, the women’s shower drain was clogged. By Saturday morning, an out of order sign was taped to the shower curtain. The shower drain was clogged during our entire stay and it was fixed on Monday which is the day we checked out. Being that this shower was the only shower available for women on that section of the campground, the issue should’ve been taken care off sooner than it was handled. Under those circumstances, there was only one more shower available but, on the other section of the campground for which we had to drive to every night to go take a shower. Not cool! Another bad thing about this place is that there are no supermarkets or stores near by. The nearest store would be Walmart and its 40 minutes away. Pray to god you don’t end up needing anything because this campground does not have a camp store neither. To add, the older man who checked me in was not friendly at all. I don’t expect for people to be smiley and chatty, but if I say hello along with “How are you doing today?” I do expect an answer at the very least. Courtesy does go a long way. Needless to say...this was our first time visiting this campground and, as much as we love camping, we are definitely not going back to this...
Read more6 years ago I wrote a 5 star... park itself is still pretty great... however the bathrooms are not well maintained (almost disgusting really) - dirty and out of paper. There are some many trees dead and ready to come down. My neighbor had his tent under two trees on his site... So its still a great place - campground, nice sites and river access but less well cared for. lastly the 4 best sites are now cabins... which is great for them but less so for campers. Side note - only fly fishing w/in the park according to the signs so factor that in if you are bringing children. The river isn't deep and a lot of youth enjoying a challenging walking across the river and back ... and sort of a nice chair hangout "beach" sandbar near the main "swimming area" (too shallow for swimming). lots of people tubing and the river is well...
Read moreJust like last season, it's CLOSED. But we parked the motorcycle outside the gates and walked a short distance to a picnic table and had our lunch(we always pack a soft-sided cooler). Notice that I didn't say enjoyed our lunch, the flying bugs are soooo annoying and CONSTANT, that you just want to hurry and pack up to get away. But the grounds are VERY beautifully kept, even with the park being closed. If you decide to go and do what we did, PLEASE be respectful and bring a garbage bag. There are no trash receptacles anywhere and the old saying goes ... " carry out whatever you carried in " ... that includes your garbage people. UPDATE 7/27/2021 Rode by yesterday and they ARE...
