Nice hike around the loop. Short enough to do in a couple hours our less depending on your pace and long enough to feel like you did something. Trail runs along a small stream for a good portion before the trail turns up the mountain. Nice spot with a great view at the top to relax and check out the sights. Overall it's not too difficult although some spots are pretty steep and the terrain a bit rough. Young kids will need help but it's suitable for a family outing. Would be challenging for persons not in good shape. The loop connects with the AT and could be a starting point of a longer day hike. The brook / stream is running full steam right now - little waterfalls and pools. If it had been a hot day it would have been wonderful to take the water, but beautiful just to watch. The forest scents here are amazing - the smell of a happy Earth. Saw - for the first time ever - a full sized Great Horned owl - flying in the woods, through the trees. We took advice from previous hikers who recommended going counter clockwise or turning north when you reach the Pine Loop Trail sign near the parking spaces located across the road adjacent to the Housatonic river.
