Very pretty but the tent sites are immediately on the road and many offer very little privacy from passing cars. There’s lots of nighttime traffic on this stretch of dirt as well so dust and headlights are a part of the experience unfortunately. The park is supposed to close at dusk, but cars continued to roll in (only to turn around at the end of the road and return) throughout the night. The RV sites are practically on top of each other and are somewhat in the spotlight for incoming cars as well. I also get the feeling that this is a bit of a party spot, but my direct neighbors, though young, were relatively quiet and respectful, so this may be completely unfounded. Sadly, the restrooms are absolutely atrocious. There are bugs splattered all over the walls (as least I hope that’s what the brown smudges are) and spider eggs dot the corners of the ceiling like strings of Christmas lights. I don’t know what to say for the ladies, but for gents’ #2’s, I’d head into town for the Kroger. I wouldn’t recommend this site for those looking for complete solitude, but it’s a decent place to rest for a day or two if you’re into fishing or you just need a place while in...
Read moreJuly 19, 2021. Arrived at the camp around 6pm, no sign for host anywhere, so we followed the signs to pay cash in the envelope. We first found a sight, #10, backed in. Put the RV on parked and as I exited the RV a guy came flying up in a golf cart and with the countenance of someone who was very angry, asked me in “Why are you here!” I was kind of startled at his attitude and I thought isn’t it obvious? He again asked in an aggressive voice, “ What are you doing here!?” Said w e are here to check in for tonight, (isn’t it obvious, I have an RV, here is an unused sight and it’s right next to where you pay cash in a envelope) he again aggressively asked, “How long have you been here!” I said sir, we just arrived about one minute ago. He then said, “I am the camp host, it’s $22! Pay me!” He had the tone as though we were attempting to steal a sight without paying. We were honestly struck with his attitude and his accusatory tone. I just smiled and payed him. Beware of this fella, there is no reason for his attitude, made our stay negative. The park only has 10 sights for RVs, they are all very close side by side. Super small park, we won’t return as long as that...
Read moreCouldn't do it... Used to live in Shelbyville (20+ years ago). Was excited to learn that Lake Shelby now had an RV campground. Booked 5-night stay at Site 1 (full hook-up). Arrived to find that most of the "site" was an asphalt parking lot, and the other side was mere feet away from an unusually busy dirt road leading further back into the park (What's going on back there with all the traffic? I have some ideas...) Entire "site" was covered with 1/4 to 1/2 inch of dust, and was getting worse by the minute. Not safe for us or our dogs. We bugged out and could only find a site in Frankfort (30+ miles away). Very disappointing. Lost all of our prepaid booking fees. Beautiful lake and park, but there's something going on with all that traffic and it isn't hiking, fishing...
