I would give recreation management corp, the company that runs Ski Big Bear and Costas, a 0 stars if I could, but honestly, they don’t deserve a zero star. The only reason they’re still in business is because there is nothing else around for Masthope and Fawn Lake. The lady that manages both could use training in hospitality. She talks down to customers with disdain and arrogance. They make everything as difficult as possible, yet expect you to act privileged, despite paying $350 per person for lift tickets. Yesterday morning I tried to purchase private lessons for my three children. Of course you can’t book them online. I called and spoke to Kelly. She said come in there were plenty of spots available at 11:00. And of course, I couldn’t book them over the phone. I showed up a few minutes later and the woman at the window said 11:00 was full, but she would see if she could get my kids in. She was able to get my kids in. Then yesterday afternoon, I wanted to book lessons again. I went to the window and they said I couldn’t book them at the window for tomorrow. I’d need to call later. Then I called later and of course no one answered. Again I called this morning and spoke with Kelly and again she said no problem for 11:00. But low and behold, I arrive and 11:00 is booked solid. Do not go out of your way to Ski Big Bear, there are so many better options in the Poconos. And as I’m writing this, I see this sign, which I find incredibly ironic.

It’s our first time to visit this year as it is close to our lodging. We wanted our son to try skiing! We liked everything here. Parking is close proximity to the ski park. The staff is nice and patient with our questions. I think my husband spoke to one of the managers (she had short bob) where to go, what to do. My son took lessons with Coach John G (group) and Jack M (private). They’re amazing and I think they both did a great job coaching all the students. It was easy to get the rentals and return process was a breeze as well. The food for a ski park is pretty good. It’s called ‘The Scrambler’ I recommend the Mac & cheese, Philly cheesesteak, cheeseburger and chicken and cheese sandwich. The staff at the kitchen is friendly and the eating area is orderly and clean. We really had a good time here. It’s not pretentious, the skis and snowboards aren’t locked with personal cable wires and that says a lot. We were able to comfortably leave MJ’s shoes inside the rental area knowing it won’t get stolen (unlike the other mountain I went to a long time ago, my cousin’s Uggs were stolen!) I recommend this place for a good family time!

The mountain is good and fun to ski or snowboard at. The employees or specifically one certain employee was very rude. This was my first time ever coming up to ski at big bear mountain because my friend had offered me to stay at his house. I had grabbed the wrong ski lift pass (I didn’t yet know what the real ones looked like) from my friends house since he skiis at multiple mountains around the area and has a lot laying around. Keep in mind I have only been here for a day and did not study what the lift pass looks like. So, as you probably expect my pass did not work and I was sent to the top of the mountain by management. As soon as I got to the top I was met with an extremely rude employee who was very demanding and aggressive. He asked to see my lift pass and my receipts. I obliged to his requests and showed him. I knew already what the problem was so I explained to him my story about my friends house from above. The employee acted as if I was some fraud and was not at all hearing me out. He then took me to the rental area (because I had rentals) and looked up my account. He said he could not find my account but somehow confirmed my rental with some rapid fire questions about my identity? I even had to show him my high school ID. I was then taken to the area where you buy lift tickets and was demanded that I pay $80 for a one day lift ticket. At this point I had no idea what was going on and was very confused because I thought I had explained very well my story and that my receipts would confirm I was not in the wrong. Nope. So at this point I called my father while we were both standing at the booth which made him rush inside as my phone rang. He talked to the lady inside about stuff I couldn’t hear. As I was still on the phone, he came back out and said that I would only have to pay $5 for a replacement lift ticket and that my account was magically found. This ticked me off and the guy just walked off. As he was walking off he heard me explaining how bad my experience was to my father and came back to give him some words. He then proceeded to tell my father that I said I didn’t know where my lift pass was (completely disregarding my story) and that I was lying. He handed me my phone and as he walked away he didn’t even say a word. I explained to my father how he lied and how it wasn’t true. I am 15 years old and this man tried to take advantage of me because maybe he though I was a dumb teen? I know I may not have much credibility since I am younger but I wouldn’t type all this for no reason. I did have fun skiing though and it was very nice all 3 days...

To all potential guests this review should be an eye opener for all. If I could give this a negative star I would. I took my 14 yr old twins and my sons 14 year old friend to big bear on Friday February 22nd, 2019. My twins have never skied so I signed them up for the lesson and bunny slope for $73.00 per child and my sons friend for a experienced standard ticket which was $110, the total for three kids was $256.00 All included use of skies, helmet and boots. My son was caught 2 X times on the standard slope (by accident) and management made him remove the skies and was told to go to the front office I must say this was a mistake by my son not realizing he was going down the wrong slope.

However management handled the situation in an VERY unprofessional manner. As I explained that the tickets cost me $73.00 each child and I did ask about an upgrade which I was told it would cost another $73.00 per child. I did also explain that we were leaving in 15 minutes due to the fact we had 1.5 ride back home.

I thought the upgrade would cost $30 to $35.00 each where I was wrong.

Getting back to the issue with Management they did NOT want to hear anything other than you as the parent owe us another $73.00 because my son accidentally went down the wrong slope twice. so at that point I gave them my Amex card and said I will disbute the charge Management said we will call Pa state police for theft of service. At this point they demanded cash payment or I had to sign a letter crafted up by the office manager that I will NOT disbute the charge or else again threatened Pa state police for theft of service

The above incident was a form of strong arming for a payment of an additional $73.00. Yes as the parent I take FULL RESPONSIBILITY of my sons honest mistake however the management team is NOT family friendly, I do NOT expect anything for free in life but they have VERY VERY poor customer relations and this was total extortion.

I originally chose Big Bear due to the fact they were a little less expensive than camalback sking, It's the old adage you get what you pay for. I have been to Camelback several times summer and winter with NO problems they are REAL professionals that are very Customer oriented. Stick to Camelback and stay away from big bear unless you dont mind being threatened or extorted if you or your child makes a mistake going down the...

My family was very excited to go skiing yesterday however, upon arrival, we quickly realized it was not going to be the fun day we anticipated. First, the cost was insane being this is a small country ski mountain. $328 for my daughter, husband, and I. My daughter and I rented equipment, my husband just boots. Secondly, the process to actually get our rental equipment was the most inefficient I have ever seen. It took us over an hour start to finish to get my daughter and I’s rentals. The guy directing people in the rentals was passive aggressive and acted like everyone was an inconvenience. Not impressed! Then the equipment wasn’t even correct. My snowboard was way too long, my boots were so worn I couldn’t even tighten them well, and my daughter’s skis weren’t adjusted correctly. Third, staff was rude all around. Two of the three interactions we had with ski patrol were rude on their part. Everyone seemed to have poor attitudes no matter how happy and cheery we were. Four, my brother in law and father in law went to get a table in the restaurant within the lodge. They asked for a table for four and let the waitress know a couple people would be joining after they got done with their runs. They were told, nope, not allowed. You can’t have anyone join your party. Really?! That’s ludicrous. Lastly, don’t even get me started with how crowded it was. My family members that were new to skiing couldn’t even learn well because there was literally no room on the bunny hill to do so. My dad was afraid he was going to end up running someone over, there were that many people. We spent $328 to return our gear and leave within two hours of arriving. It was such a disappointment. We will not be retuning in the future nor will we recommend the...
