What I liked about Gooseberry Falls is the fact that you can get right up next to the falls. Check on my photos.
They're beautiful, and if you can climb you will get some amazing shots and even better experiences.
You can get a lot sights above, below, and on top of the falls. And if you're into looking at nature and plants, there's a good bit of that too. One thing that I really liked was a tree that had fallen over that took up its root base as well and it just looked amazing with all of the bark removed. There are also small flowers an interesting rock formations as well.
As far as wildlife goes, there was not too much of it for us. We did see one duck mother and her flock of chicks searching for food down at the bottom of the falls. It was pretty adorable. Up at the top of the falls there's a little path that leads along the river I didn't go very far up, but we did see a sign mentioning trout season. I do not know if you can fish hear or not but it was a really nice spot and look like it might have some good opportunity for it. That said, he won't go the entire time without seeing animals. It seems a pretty popular spot for people to bring their dogs you can definitely tell really enjoy it
There were a number of people when we went, but I still really enjoyed it because you can tell everybody else was too and it wasn't an...
Read moreFourteen years ago, when we first made Minnesota our home, we were cautioned against visiting Gooseberry Falls, as it was perceived to be a magnet for tourists and crowds. This warning has proven to be well-founded, as our excursions to the North Shore consistently involve a brief sojourn. Given its status as a free State Park in close proximity to Duluth, it is inevitable that the park attracts substantial numbers of visitors during the summer. The park's amenities, including a well-appointed rest area and easy access to its picturesque waterfalls, make it an attractive destination for those visiting for the first time. However, for those who have visited previously, the experience may become somewhat routine. We have a strong affinity for exploring the more secluded areas of the North Shore, particularly those situated north of Tettegouche State Park and, to an even greater extent, those beyond Grand Marias, where we can bask in the tranquility of our surroundings and enjoy a relative absence of tourists. During our recent visit, we chanced upon Gooseberry Falls at precisely the right moment, following a period of intense rainfall, and were rewarded with the spectacle of the waterfalls at both the higher and lower ends being in a state...

The short hike from the parking lot is easy, taking about 10 minutes along a well-maintained path. It’s just enough to stretch your legs without tiring out the kids, and the scenery along the way is beautiful, with views of the river, forest, and rocky terrain.
Once at the falls, there’s plenty of space for everyone to explore. Kids (and adults!) will love climbing over the smooth rocks, splashing in the water, and getting up close to the rushing cascades.
