Stop bringing big dogs into the small dog side!!
I've been here when the big dog side floods so the big dogs come into the unflooded small side. You need to take those dogs to Family Park and stop acting like there's some rainy day exemption to SMALL DOGS ONLY. Sioux Falls isn't that big that you can't spare the 10-15 minutes to drive to Family Park and leave the small dogs their small dog enclosure.
And then yesterday it was perfectly sunny out, so naturally for no reason a woman had a large brown pitbull in the small side. She sees us approaching and puts it on the leash (in an off leash park, like what is the reason) and walks it near the back. There's a whole walking path that goes all the way to downtown outside the fence if you want to be with your leashed dog?? I kept thinking this woman had a small dog too, but then she left the small dog park with only the pit bull.
Stop bringing your large dogs into the small side because there's a mixed size dog household. Stop doing it because your large dog is shy. There's no place else for small dogs to go where they can freely run and not overexcite larger dogs that then get too rough or get rolled over. You invade the one space they have? Is no one going to...
Read moreWe mainly come to Spencer Park for the fenced dog area. The have a space specifically for small dogs and then they have and all size dog park as well. Both are fenced in and have a dual entry gate to help fur friends from running out when new dogs join. There is a drinking fountain for people and dogs to drink from which I think is very nice. There are also several places to sit while dogs play.
Most folks I've met here have fairly well behaved dogs and everyone keeps an eye out just in case their fur baby doesn't get along with another dog. For the most part, you can tell when it's play and when it's it's not so breaking something up before it starts seems to be easy with so many people keeping an eye out but I've never seen a full on fight between dogs here. It never escalates to that point which is good.
It seems like most people clean up after their dogs and use the provided trash areas which is responsible. They also have bags provided in case you forget your own. I haven't utilized the bike trail yet but my son has run on it and says it's great scenery very nice park with loads of parking. Lots of mature trees for shade and overall very well maintained. Great family...
