It was a chilly Wednesday night, and I was coasting down the 101 when all of a sudden I was craving a nice, big ol juicy Oyster. I decided to do a quick search and lo and behold, I was only a few minutes away from an oyster, but not just ANY oyster, it’s the world’s LARGEST OYSTER. My oh my was I filled with joy and delight, the thought of slurp’n down the big one filled me with delight, nothing could get in my way!

I arrived at 9:11pm, and man was I disappointed; what was set to be my greatest enjoyment, had quickly turned into my very own personal 9/11 😔 I pulled up to a dark lot, not a lot building in sight, and what do I see, next to the sea? A gigantic oyster half shell! NO OYSTER INSIDE TO BE FOUND?! I crumbled to the ground, filled with devastation, cursing any and every god I could think of for playing such a harsh trick on me. After a few moments, I managed to pull myself up by my bootstraps, and thought, hey, I’m a pretty optimistic fella, why not look at the bright side? So I walked up to the big ol shell, and thought to myself “if I can’t have the meat, at least I can lick the shell clean, and treat myself to a nice salty treat!”

Oh boy was I in shock, they outta change the name from “The worlds largest oyster” to “The worlds largest DISAPPOINTMENT”!!! I went up to that baby and gave it a big ol lick up and down, only to be greeted with a surprising lack of salty delight. So I did the obvious, and went for another globber of a slurp, and once again, NO SALT! I asked myself, what could possibly be the issue? Has my tongue lost all capability to taste? So I went in for a third mighty lick and that’s when it hit me, the taste of this shell was oddly familiar but alien none the less, it wasn’t the sweet taste of a beaut of a oyster shell, or any shell for that matter, in fact, it was the cold, flavorless taste of concrete.

So here I was, in the dark; a belly empty of shellfish, and filled with sadness. A man who licked a shell, and got a mouthful of cement.

Anyways, it’s still a kinda cool spot, but don’t go there expecting a juicy piece of shellfish, or even a real shell for that matter! However if you do want oysters that are delicious for a great price nearby, stop by Linda’s...

My kids and I were enjoying a lovely drive down the coast when sometime between 9:10 and 9:12 PM we stopped by this alluring mollusca monument and simply had to stop and take a few photographs. We were having a smashing time when suddenly we heard a mumbling specter approaching us from the darkness of the 101. We could not make out his words but in his bloodshot eyes we could see a ravenous craving for seafood. He did not engage with us when he approached the monument, instead embracing the shellfish with awestruck adoration and insatiable desire. This joy quickly turned a most unfortunate rage when the slobbering man realized this oyster was not in fact real, and rather built out of a thick concrete. He moaned a howl of grief, and in tears resorted to licking the husk of the shell clean. This cursed image is all we could capture of the incident, and I fear this beast may still be at large, forever yearning for the sweet brine of oysters.

This traumatizing experience may leave me haunted but the monument was pretty cool definitely check it out if you’re passing by. And if you’re looking for great real oysters definitely check out Linda’s Fish & Chips they’re excellent and have...

Seeing the World’s Largest Oyster in Washington state was a quirky and fun detour on our trip! Located in the small town of South Bend, this giant mollusk is a charming roadside attraction that’s definitely worth a quick stop if you’re in the area.

The oyster itself is an impressive sight – a testament to the region’s rich shellfish history. It’s displayed with informative signs that provide interesting facts about the local oyster industry, making it both an educational and entertaining visit.

The area around the oyster is well-maintained and offers a nice spot for a quick picnic or stretch break. There’s also a small park nearby where you can enjoy the coastal scenery.

While it’s not a destination you’d spend hours at, the World’s Largest Oyster is a delightful piece of Americana that adds a touch of whimsy to any road trip through Washington state. If you appreciate unique and offbeat attractions, you’ll definitely want to add this...
