This is not a bad park, don't let the 3 stars fool you. If you have a love for nature of the Lynches River area this is a nice upkept park to visit, though you will find some amenities lacking and/or missing if you are used to the comforts of bigger parks. 1. Lynches River itself is a nice generally easy flowing body that is perfect for kayakers and canoeing between the put-in at the park and getting out at the bridge of Hey 52 but there are some fallen trees along the route that can be challenging if not downright dangerous for beginning paddle-enthusiests, though this is all quite dependent on the rivers level; if it's higher you'll have virtually no problems. 2. The park has a few (2 I think) covered picnic areas which are well maintained but always occupied. If you visit on a whim odds are you wont be able to get one. 3. The nature center and the playground are good; very informative about the local flora and fauna and the playground will keep the little one quite entertained. There is a relatively short nature trail that winds through the adjacent forrest following the river for a little ways before heading back into it's interior. Good stretch of the legs. 4. The campground leaves alot to be desired in my honest opinion. Its in a wooded sandlot with no discernable "sites", fire rings, or tent pads (unless this has changed in the last 2 years since I camped there with my step-son for Boy-Scouts). The upside is there is a bathroom with showers and an decent archary range located close by if that is your thing. All in all this is an ok park for a visit with the family but if you are looking for alot of amenities you could...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe possibilities of this park is amazing. Unfortunately it's undermanaged and not very rarely taken care of. The markers are blank so when you're on a trail you don't even know where you are and all the trails kind of seem to cross over each other. The maps. There's only one when you enter the trail so take a picture. Other than that, the website really doesn't help. There's plenty of opportunity for maps to be located along the trails. You have all these these stops that have Windows that you can easily place a map and say here. You're here less likely for people to get lost trails. Go different ways. Like I said those markers are empty. There's nothing on them so if you don't know the area and you're just in the state to visit and you wanted to see the beautiful of South Carolina, it's it's a nice Park. Unfortunately it's under managed. Not very well taken care of. I have provided pictures. Plenty of areas to put a map of any of the walks. Even the the map at the beginning of the trail was not correct. We had it on our phone and other trails crossed over what seemed to be trails crossed over I'm leaving would have left needs somewhere completely else. Place is confusing a lot of potential just very poorly managed. Highly disappointed. Like most of the South Carolina parks and racks they're they're very poorly managed. Not well taken care of. Wonder where all those funds are going. Clearly not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was our first time visiting, and we came prepared to stay for about a half a day and see what the place offered. We started out on the hiking trail, which went across some boardwalks, right along the river and turned into the woods where we hiked for about a mile in a loop.
We met a couple of people along the route and then we headed up to the environmental center as there was supposedly a canopy book boardwalk, if the back door of that facility.
Indeed. There was a canopy treetop rope, swing connected to a platform and in total. There were four rope swings with four platforms. I'm totally free of charge and no helmet or harness required which sounds a little scary but the sides of the bridge were shoulder high.
Behind that is the playground and we heard quite a few children playing there before heading up the road about a quarter of a mile to the splash pad and picnic area. The splash pad was inside of a fence for protection of the children. I would assume and also they serve food, French, fries, chicken sandwiches. I saw cotton candy. I'm sure they have drinks.
They also have a climbing wall and as we pulled up to the splash pad area, there was a sign outside that said the the climbing wall was open.
The splash pad entry fee is $6 for the day other than that, everything else here was free. And I did not check on the climbing wall, it's probably not something that's going to happen...
