We love this place! Not only is it perfect distance but also rich in history. They don't openly tell you this, but those "rocks" you see are plates from prehistoric dinosaurs. (think armor) It's said to still have a few mysterious creatures floating down at the bottom. If you slap the water 3 times and pass gas under water they say it will come out. The lifeguards, bathrooms and covered areas are wonderful. Only downfall is there tends to be trash in the water. Maybe some kind of filtration system could be installed to help w that. Not for the entire lake, just the Overton park area. The vending machines offer a variety and gourmet delicacies. whatever you do, don't feed the ducks anything from the vending machine. Massive blowouts!

This place is fantastic. It's got a bunch of pavilions and picnic tables. The beach is clean, and the water is great. No pets allowed, which isn't such a big deal to me. There is a lifeguard on duty there which is nice. They are only open from 10-6 but that's a good time to go to me. Great place, doesn't get nearly enough traffic and it should. Plan on going there more often. Pack a lunch and make a day of it. The bathrooms are clean, and there is a vending machine for drinks.

1 star just for lack of communication from the park and county. Constant traffic here forced to turn around and Google maps nor the website here has any information that this park is closed and has been for a while. However finally there is some information, via a poster on the gate. Guess that's better than nothing. In the future the county could at LEAST update the website. Opening May 24th apparently.

We are planning our family day to be at Overton Beach this year. So my cousin and I took our kids out there Saturday to hang out for the day. Well it is in fact a nice small version of Short Stay. Plenty of shade so if you are not able to secure one of the 3 covered cabanas the trees will suffice, if you don't have access to bring your own tent.

However when we took to the water with the kids, our experience turned sour. Water was warm, but there was alot of baby clams floating in the water, along with alot of bugs. Yes I know it is lake water and that is to be expected. However, if you are charging people to come in, it should go to the maintenance and some type of filtering. As we walked out towards the volleyball net, we noticed sharp and bumpy large pieces of what felt like concrete or something. It was very uncomfortable to walk on. Imagine trying to play volleyball ball with that under your bare feet. We tried to walk over towards the left to see if maybe it was just under the volleyball area. It wasn't. Though it was more dirt you could still feel the sharp edges of whatever that was on the lake floor. So if you are ok with the excessive floating bugs and clams, I would recommend wearing water shoes in the water.

Also, the restrooms were pretty bad as well. I don't have details because I don't generally use public restrooms, but my cousin and daughter both told me it wasn't clean and they rather wait until they go home.

All in all the views and picnic areas was nice and comfortable. The kids had a blast. It's perfect for what my family have plans for. My only turn off is the water and lake floor. Oh and I guess someone should come throughout the day to clean the restrooms. I will return, but I don't plan on going back in the water unless I have...

As you might know, this place overlooks what used to be a valley. There were towns down there. There is also reason to believe an ancient civilization existed before settlers arrived. A river ran along the first valley to rise on the way to the mountains.

So this view and the place itself is worth supporting. I would pay more. But I actually was turned away because I didnt have cash. No venmo or anything. Its 2022, my friends. Last time I came out it was closed for the season. So to be turned away again an hour before closing was pretty disappointing.

It's cool I'm not mad just a little salty. There should be more access to this area for the public. This lake was created on the argument that it would serve generations. This access shouldnt be kept behind a gate and closed two thirds...
