We have been camping here for years. Started in tents and upgraded to camper. I will warn other campers of THE BUGS. We have camped at many different places, but Short Stay has more bugs than any place I've ever been. Ants, house Flys, roaches, and mayflies. PREPARE AHEAD...bring Home Defense Bug barrier and a netted tent for over the picnic table. It's makes a world of difference. But we have had roaches travel home with us from Short Stay in our clothes hamper...so shake your clothes out before bringing into your house. SPRAY YOUR CAMPER FOR BUGS BEFORE GOING. warning, house flies will be all over your food and trash can. We used a screened in tent over picnic table the last time and it made a world of difference. We have also had two separate squirrel encounters here...one time a squirrel took my husband's entire lunch up a tree! Another time, a squirell chewed a hole through our trash can. And this time we had a stray cat come begging for scraps. Other than all that....you can have a great time here! Playground needs updating...

When we got there we decided to up grade,so the person in the office that night said pick a spot.and we did, we got everything off the truck, got the camper set up and we was ready for a good weekend with the grandbaby. Well the next morning we go to the office so we can pay for the extra amount for the lot and the woman said you can't stay there on the lot I just rented it .so we ask if we could up grade and move to a good spot we were told absolutely not you have to go to the lot you rented.it rained all week...there was lots of better camp sites that stayed empty all week.we had to stay at the one that had mud puddles that we could almost swim in..my husband had to get a shovel and dig a trench so the water would drain away from the camp site ...Tell me something Ms Joint Base in Charleston SC.. what would it have hurt to look in your appointment book and gave us a good spot to park our camper...I can tell you rain or no rain it would have made our vacation a lot nicer and would have given this...

3 stars because we go here all of the time and LOVE IT! However, whatever new staff has been hired takes their job way too seriously. I’m pretty heavily tattooed, and my husband is a senior chief and it was pretty obvious we were profiled & treated like criminals when we’re the most unproblematic people ever with a baby. Even the security guards were laughing at how ridiculous the lady (longish brown hair - older) was being. First, she called security on us for pulling our car up (which we do every time and immediately go park it) so we can unload my son’s stuff. Then, she called on my husband for trying to use a grill under a pavilion. The security guards literally ended up driving over and bringing us a grill in their truck. Like really lady? Next time I’m there i’ll make sure to get her name and make a formal complaint. Also, a bunch of other people are commenting how much $ the yearly passes are, yet this place hasn’t been updated in 15 years. It would be so nice to have a...

So far its very nice. Lots of water things to do...big check in and store...rental boats etc. Premium RV slots are better as they are concrete...otherwise dirt. Friendly folks... Fun place! On the other side of the coin... beware if the ANTS they are every where and no matter how much you try...they are coming in. Everybody complained about them! Almost 3 weeks later and i am still killing them in my Class A motorhome. Not good... Trees and branches...very low and doesnt seem like they are cut very oftem...maintenence around the place needs a little boost... Bathhouse cleaning...seems lacking as well. After the big weekend party with many extra guests coming on site...they were not cleaned for days. This is the main spit to shower and clean up as the whole park has no sewer connections... Would i come back..hhmm... maybe but you better hit a premium site with concrete pad, be willing to deal with ants, and the dirty bathhouse!

We rented a 2 bedroom villa here for the holiday weekend and absolutely loved our stay. The place was furnished with dishes, pots and pans, and a full sized stove and fridge. The back deck opened up to the lake with a grill and picnic table. The front side had its own beach view, so it felt like we were surrounded by water.because out each window was an incredible view. They offered rentals for all the water boats types or just fishing off your own spot. There was a party in a separate venue rental one night. They had music and dancing, but it ended at a decent time so it was quiet by 11p. The skies were clear so the star gazing was amazing. Its about an hour from Charleston, so we had a bit of a drive coming and going to other sites, but it was nice to feel like we were coming home. The villa was clean and we enjoyed our stay.

Linda, Josh, Diane, Jodi, Coretta and Mr Richard work extremely hard to keep Short Stay running with little and lacking resources. They continually have to fight all types of battles to keep Short Stay afloat. I know as a frequent weekend guest for the last 20 years with Lake Pirate and company many changes have happen some good and some not so good. But one thing is for sure keep the unwanted vistors OUT, especially the Geese that destroyed our BEAUTIFUL recreation area and the riff raff. Short Stay prices have increased signficantly since the Airforce took over a few years ago. I have seen some improvement but not enough to warrant such a pay hike. Currently renovations are underway for the villas and many are closed. We are excited to see what the quaility will be once they open.
