After an otherwise wonderful trip to the island, we really wish we hadn't stopped here. We are traveling so we had our well-behaved dog with us. We were immediately told she couldn't be in the building (the only building she hadn't been allowed in on the island) unless she was held (45 lb Aussie), so my husband said ok and took her out. I followed and we walked around the yard area and my dog stopped to do her business. Being responsible pet owners, we bagged it and began looking for a trash receptacle. I told my husband I wanted to look at the museum side of things so I went back inside. Within a couple of minutes I hear a commotion outside and see the girl working behind the counter in the store is now outside yelling at my husband, and an older woman inside is saying he is putting dog poop on my golf cart. I said I don't think so, and she said yes he is! I walk outside to find out the older woman was the girl in the shop's mother. There were literally NO trash cans outside on the entire property. My husband saw the non-visitor golf cart and correctly assumed since it was already piled high with bags of garbage, that it would be an appropriate place for the tied-off bag of poop. The girl was yelling at my husband that her mom was 'doing a dump run', but don't put it in her...
Read moreSummer, is a wonderful person that manages this place and has made this a delightful, must visit destination on the island. Summer was very welcoming and laid back. We stayed here for quite a while. You can have a tasty beverage while you look around all the neat merchandise and the artifacts in the museum. Lots of great history of the area inside. Have another beverage while you walk the grounds and try to spot the family of bald eagles that has taken up residence in the trees nearby. There's even a box with binoculars that assists you in watching the eagles. The grounds are great and make for a quaint place to buy a bottle of wine on site along with some provisions bought on site to have a little snack and relax. Very welcoming to kids and our daughter loved picking out a toy pirate ship to take home with us. We had a great surprise experience here and would recommend it to anyone visiting the island for the day or staying on the island and wanting a repeat...
Read moreA very unfortunate visit. We were a group of eight that visited on a Sunday. The woman that initially greeted us was quite pleasant and told us to explore the property and then visit the museum and tasting room. Unfortunately, the other woman that worked there had zero people skills was quite aggressive with us, refused to answer questions and ultimately locked us out of the museum. This was to be the highlight of our visit so a few of us tried to return a little while later. She was still very rude and unpleasant. We never did the wine tasting or received any information about the museum. I would not recommend wasting your time. Take a bottle of your own wine and snacks and enjoy one of the many...
