The only cost is park entrance. The kids loved it! They have some historic cabins from the original stockade, and some replicas. The originals are roped off, but the replicas can be explored. They also have a number of signs, telling the history of settlement and gold mining in this area. It's very educational and entertaining. Nice informative walk leading to the reconstructed wooden fort and cabins from 1874 during the Black Hills Gold Rush.
One can quickly learn how the Indians were screwed over yet again in history due to the violation of the Treaty of Fort Laramie.
Always keep in mind when visiting the Black Hills that the U.S. government agreed that it belonged to Lakota Sioux Nation.

Read morePretty area to check out. Some of the stockade roofs were starting to fall apart and cave in. It was neat to walk inside some of the cabins. The info boards along the path were interesting and informative. It was a bit muddy inside the stockade part, maybe they could add some gravel to in front of the cabins you can go into.
