I stayed 3 nights in Stockade Lake North in site 35E and two years ago I stayed in 3E in the big loop. The road around the campground is a paved road in good condition. Site 35 is in the smaller loop to the left as one enters the campground and if you use the only water spigot in that loop to fill your fresh water tanks you will probably need a hose to reach under/around your trailer as the spigot is located on the right hand side of the road. You will be blocking the loop road when you fill here, as there is little room for others to maneuver around you. I drove through our loop, stopped and unloaded the motorcycle from our toy hauler where the loop road was wide enough that I didn’t block anyone and then went to the other loop to fill our water. The spigot across from the showers in the other loop is on the left side making it easier to fill the tanks and there is room for other vehicles to pass while you are filling. The only problem is the overhead tree branches just in front of the spigot are low enough to drag on tall trailers. Out site was too unlevel for the hydraulic system to handle without using leveling blocks and I believe this is true with a lot of the sites there. Some of the sites are close to perpendicular to the road while others are angled to allow easy backing. There was plenty of room to maneuver your vehicle without obstacles. The driveway was mostly gravel and long enough for the 36’ trailer to be unhooked from the truck with room left over. The site had 30 & 50 amp outlets and the electrical pedestal was in good condition. We also had a picnic table and a fire ring. The bigger loop has a modern shower and bathroom, which is very clean. There is no dump station at the campground but many of the rest areas on the interstate have dump stations. The nearby town of Custer has groceries, laundry and restaurants. There is a Custer State Park entrance fee that is required for each motor vehicle. We had decent cell coverage at the campground using AT&T. I would...
Read moreWonderful wooded campsites as well as clean bathroom and shower facilities! The sites are not completely isolated, but it's not as if the whole campground is visible for any one spot. There is a playground and open fields for kids to run around and have fun, while the location of the campground itself offers the conveniences of the city of Custer just a few miles down the road. The rangers even come by every now and again to give presentations on the local wildlife and geology! There are two downsides to camping here (but only minor grievances): the first is that there is only one bathroom/showerhouse shared by all the campers, making it inconvenient to those further away. The second (and I believe this just comes with the territory so be prepared) is that there is a lot of pollen that drifts down from the trees and coats everything (at least earlier in the summer as when our visit was), and is not easily shaken or washed off. Other than that, I was extremely satisfied with our stay here, and I think you...
Read moreWe had site 41E with electric only. It was the first site as you entered the campground and although it was close to the main road, we rarely heard anything. It was very spacious and fairly level. We’re almost 60’ in total length and there was plenty of room. There’s a picnic table and a fire ring. They’re on opposite sides of the site drive, which is kind of strange. The campground is super quiet. The host was nice. There’s recycling as well as regular trash cans. We didn’t try the bath house at all. There’s a nice little trail that circles around the campground. It’s very scenic. Of course there were the usual suspects that think their dogs don’t need to be on a leash. Frustrating because I’m pretty sure the camp host had to have seen them, but never said anything. We were located in a great area to explore and only about 10 minutes to the town of Custer. All in all a beautiful stay and we would definitely...
