Deerlick Creek Park is a hidden gem in my opinion. We were there on a red flag day which means there is no swimming due to dangerous water conditions (there are no posted warning flag here, we observed the red flag at the state park down the road) and it was a little cold for the beginning of August so I am not sure if it is usually a busy area but there were very few people here when we visited. Free parking with about 10 slips. One porta potty is to the left of the parking area and there are a few benches to sit on. The beach is just after the parking lot so it is a very short walk to the beach. The initial area of the beach is not big but there is plenty of room to spead out and we did observe a couple of people walking around the rock jetty from the right of the beach coming from what they said was another beach but they didn't know if it was privately owned so venture at your own risk. Definitely a nice beach to visit if you don't want to be on the bigger beaches with tons of people. Van Buren State Park in approximately 9...

This was a far north along Michigan's shore we went, this trip. It's a little more hidden then the other parks we stopped at along the road side, making it my favorite so far. They have Porta potties, a few picnic tables, and a short walk on the sandy beach to the water, no stairs and it's not as steep as some of the other parks we visited. The only negative I have is not so much the few parking spaces but the "turning around" if there's no spot and that's mostly because there are huge boulders to maneuver if you have a van, camper, extended cab, or some sort of rack on your tailgate. (but back and forth a few times will do the trick) I would still highly recommend Deerlick Creek Park for a quiet beach with an amazing view of...

I would give 5 Stars because this is a great beach for rock hunting enthusiasts, small/quaint, and USED TO BE a great dog beach as well, which is harder to come by but they just revoked access for dogs and they are no longer allowed apparently. So 3 stars revoked for that new, lame rule. Many people still there with dogs as this rule is so new (August 2023), me included because I drove from an hour away with my dog just to discover they changed the rules, so we had a lot of fun still. But why the rule change? There are plenty of no dog beaches out there for people that don't like them so let us have our furry...

Finding fossil soups is one of my favorite things to do on Lake Michigan. They have so much going on and when you cut them, it’s a different slice every single time rock hounding is one of my favorite hobbies to do and it is so rewarding when you cut open such amazing stones, happy hunting #therockhoundadventures #rockhounding #rockhound #rockhoundingadventures #rockshop #cuttingrocks

Dogs might outnumber humans here after seeing 4 Chihuahuas come in. Parking has about 7 spots w 1 handicapped next to beach, but 20 more marked spots 200 yds back. Beach is typical lake narrow sand strip, pebbly at water. Some fallen trees into water somewhat block walking south, and 1/4 mile south has blocks & rocks much more difficult to pass. Immediately north of beach entrance is very difficult rock and sign says dogs not allowed that way. A little creek is immediately south that is about 18" deep that probably is a little warmer than into the lake if not spilling into it. One porta potty at parking, one bench.
