Buchanan State Forest — Attraction in Southampton Township

Incredibly lovely and fantastically remotely picnic area at the northern end of the forest. Would be perfect for a small family reunion with less small children. If other people aren't your thing such as myself, this entire forest area is quite wonderful. Can't comment on the ATV trails, but I will say the trail parking lots are perfect for stargazing! Even more spots if you aren't afraid to hike off trail. Although at Martin Hill lot campsite, I was politely growled at by what sounded very close, four legged, furry, and impatient to get on with her dinner plans for the evening. We conceded and happily traveled down the road so all parties could enjoy the evening. But be sure to have a full tank of fuel, drinks, snacks, smokes, anything you may need during your visit. The forest is wonderful, love the trails, CCC stuff, and abandoned turnpike. Please use CAUTION if camping along Oregon Road, specifically site 25. I pitched my tent, hiked, built a fire, and I was attacked by European hornets. If you're not familiar like I wasn't, they're huge angry nocturnal hornets, they won't bother you until night. Buchanan State Forest is wonderful because of not only its beauty but also because it is usually much less used than Forbes SF to the west. Much less foot traffic.
