When I am in Mobile, I prioritize a trip to Five Rivers and the Cypress Gift Shop. Every visit seems better than the last. I love walking through the resource center and listening in on the nature lessons that the guides give my daughter. I am continually surprised by some new nugget of info. The animals that are kept in the resource center are kept for instructional purposes, and I have to admit that I have come away with a much greater appreciation for some of the more slithery animals that I may meet on my hikes. Thanks to the guides at Five Rivers, my daughter and I both understand how valuable snakes are to the ecosystem. We also know the proper way to safely remove ourselves from a snake encounter.
The resource center is certainly wonderful, and the deck overlooking the water is the perfect place to relax. There is one more amazing aspect of this wonderful resource that I must mention - the Cypress Gift Shop. This jewel of a store is my favorite place to shop. I wish it's charm could be replicated in every store I visit. There is a lovely woman who works there who is just a pleasant human being. She is both kind and helpful. In the store, there are unique gifts. There are handmade jewelry pieces that look like leaves, berries, or flowers. My daughter once gave me a dogwood flower bracelet from this store. It is my most treasured piece of jewelry. They have lovely pottery, fun kids toys and finger puppets. And oh the books! I have on many occasions found the most wonderful books in this store. They have Audobon guide books and children's books which do a great job of explaining wildlife. My favorites have been Travels of William Bartram and The Flower Hunter. I adore this store and will continue to stop in whenever I...
Read moreAmazing place to visit, especially if you enjoy being outdoors and want to learn more about the Flora and Fauna around the Eastern Shore. Parents, this is a great way to slip some fun education in on your kids, w/o them knowing! Beautiful nature trails, bay boat rides, live animal exhibits. Alsoooo, this place does B-day parties too! WHAT??!! My kids and I visit 5 Rivers quite often. We love to have Nerf Wars and play on the trails. I do however wish 5 Rivers wld REOPEN the Gift Shop. What wonderful treasures this shop had! I truly miss it and so do my kiddos, desperately. The shop had amazing gifts and clothing, as well as some absolutely gorgeous pieces of jewelry. We never walked away empty handed. I truly wish, hope it might REOPEN one day.
Please stop by 5 Rivers and enjoy the beautiful sites...
Read moreGreat experience, we went on the 90 min cruise going through the delta around midday. Not alot of wildlife out at that time due to the heat, the captain suggested doing a morning or evening one for wildlife. The seats on the boat were wood and your back just rested against the railing or if you had a center seat you had no back rest. A bit overpriced for what it was and the seating become very uncomfortable after the first 1/2 hour so be sure to bring a cushion! The Delta center though was wonderful, lots of educational info about the area with live and taxidermy animals plus the delta...
