This is our local park. Our advice is, when things stop and start touching the ground, PUT YOUR ANT DEFENSE DOWN! The views and the park are simply beautiful. The pier and nature board walk are really good to view the sunsets, dinosaurs, and jumping mullet. There are tons of access to fishing. Each spot is pretty level, most have a grill, picnic table, but no fire ring. If you have your own fire ring and there isn't a burn ban; your free to burn your own. The staff are Southern friendly. There is some road noise, but just put a fan, or something on and that will cure that. This isn't a resort, it's a simple place, so relax. Food stores, shopping, resturants, USS Alabama, and historic downtown Mobile are just minutes away. Great little gem in the middle of everything, or on the way to wherever. Meaher is starting to be full more often now, so make your reservations 2+ weeks out? As bad as I hate to say it, don't be surprised if they don't answer the phone, OR CALL BACK. They are doing more about the ants now and they aren't ANYTHING like they used to be. Do not leave your pet food in a bowl on the floor, even if you spray, they'll still get in for that. We still spray.....just to be sure.

Sunsets are awesome. BYO firepit. We stayed here for a weekend early November in our TT (caravan). BYO fire pit if you camp here, otherwise just use the grill provided. Sunsets from your campsite along the water are awesome!!!!! We fished from the pier a few times, checked out the discovery centre over the road, found two geocaches and just chilled for the weekend. Next time we come here, we will hire canoes or kayaks and head upstream a bit with some fishing gear. The camp host greeted us on arrival and was very pleasant. The sites are bitumen and near level. Clean bathouses, well maintained all round. It is near the main roads but the road noise wasn't an issue, even with our AC turned off. Review lost a point because there is no park for the kids and no fish cleaning station, even though people day visit just for pier fishing. It has a boat ramp and a separate kayak launch dock! Fishing. We caught pan fish along the weedline from the pier with worms and a small spinner. You might be lucky to get redfish or a big bass. We werent. Gators. We were told there was a 14ft and babies around earlier the day we arrived. We went looking for them day and night without seeing any 😔.

Nice enough park mostly a camping and boat launch. Not much privacy in the campground... Bathhouse looked nice but we never used it as we spent the night in a cabin. We started in Heron House an accessable cabin. It smelled brand new... Otherwise seemed new as well. It has a small fridge that opened the wrong way away from the wall that made getting things out difficult. There was no range or oven but it did have a microwave and a coffee pot along with most of the kitchen plates, bowls, silverware, etc that you might need. Kitchen things we're all stacked on the counter as there was no cabinets to put things in... So there was no room left to work on preparing your meal. You can do it it's just not easy. There is only one chair to sit in... You can sit hunched up in the bottom bunk bed to watch TV. This is the accessable cabin and the regular cabin next door had a small couch we're out cabin had bunk beds... Is you only needed the one bed you may want to get the Eagle Nest cottage. There was a nice covered porch with love seat and a ceiling fan to discourage no seems. We really enjoyed our stay especially since the cost was right and they let us take it for one night.

We stayed at the state park for five nights. It is right on the bay and the sites are nice and large. The facilities were clean and well kept as for the grounds. Be aware there is no pool.....but there is a boat ramp! They have a fishing pier and a wooden walkway out over the Delta that we were able to observe alligators and various birds. There's an area they call a beach that has a couple picnic tables but the beach is not sand it's crushed shells but it was very private once you got to it. There's also an area where there's a beekeeper. You can actually buy fresh honey at the office! We enjoyed our stay very much. The staff, Anna, was extremely helpful. We went to tour the USS Alabama and the USS Drum. The drive to get there was less than 10 minutes. We ate dinner at Ed's, a local restaurant right down the road and the food was great and the drinks were even better! My only recommendation would be to make sure you have bug spray! The mosquitoes were bad..... But that's to be expected in the middle of summer in the south.

The facilities here are very nicely kept as far as the grounds and the restrooms. The paid nd volunteer staff are really pleasant to be around. They have a grill on each full hook up site, but they have to double as the fire pit if you do have your own. There are a few very short, but well maintained trails. We were very close to the bathrooms and laundry, but if you are going to be in a tent there are no facilities close to those. The website does need A LOT of updating though. This is a very small park. It is quite surprising that it is a state park and not just a regular RV park because of its size of grounds. They are beautiful and the sunsets are amazing. There must have been a lot of things destroyed in hurricane Sally that have not been replenished. The T of the fishing pier that they boast on their website is no longer there so it is just a regular pier that is packed with people during day time hours.

great customer service from most of the staff ( park supervisor, maintenance department, and park host in charge of cabins) but possibly the worst park I've ever stayed at for tent camping. The tent pads were horrific (crushed stone more suitable for a road paving project, see pic), and the overall layout of the park (tent pads were located as far as possible in the park from the rest rooms and facilities while the RV and trailer sites were just next to those facilities). Electricity did not work at the site, and the maintenance staff was not notified until the next morning. Clearly this park was not designed by anyone who has ever tent camped. The only redeeming thing about our stay was that the park supervisor refunded our money and we were able to find alternative facilities. This park may be fine for RV's or Trailers, but if you are planning to tent camp, I urge you to look elsewhere.
