This park is set outside of Thurston and is surrounded by woods and views of hills in the distance. The grounds are well-maintained, the bathroom is always clean, and there are lots of features for everyone. If you want a huge area with lots of seating and food prep area to throw a party or picnic, this would be the place! Call ahead to reserve one of their shelters. There is a big volleyball sand court with net, nice play structures for kids of all sizes, and there is even a dog park across the lot from the kid park.

(For off-leash dog park area) PROS: -3 large areas for small (up to 25 pounds), medium (25-50 pounds), and all dogs -Benches throughout -Some trees for shade -Water stations in each area with hoses and plastic tubs CONS: -No trashes throughout, but several are at the entrance NEUTRAL: -Gravel path around most of the all dog area -Fully fenced and double gated -Near a large park with a playground and on-leash trails

We visit this park more than any other. We swim for fun as a family at Splash, my daughter also swims in Special Olympics here. We've had several family cookouts here (they have wonderful amenities, including the best playground in Springfield). I also bring my dogs here several times a month and really appreciate the separate small dog area so my Corgis can have fun with pals their own size.

Bring a weapon and prepare to defend yourself. Most people who bring dogs to this park have an "anything goes" attitude and think they aren't responsible for the I pets behavior because "if you don't like it, don't come to the dog park." (This and similar have been said to me many times by numerous people.) My dogs and I have been attacked, (surrounded, chased, knocked down, bit, trampled, jumped on, etc.) on several occasions while the owners make no effort to intervene. To be fair, this isn't really the park's fault, but rather the quality of people you'll find in Thurston. You could realistically find yourself in a similar situation at a grocery store...

Tell me why splash would only sell concessions on weekends when today is the opening of swim lessons and there are at least 50 hungry parents? To top it all off the counter worker refuses to even sell packaged candy claiming she needs a food handlers card... FALSE! You only need the card for prepared foods! Here's an idea, if you're not going to feed your customers at least place a vending machine with snacks. What happens if you have a diabetic with a low blood sugar??? Then you have a law suit on your hands!...
