This park continues to be a place of beauty. As grass begins to green in the Spring, the park service also turn on the beautiful water fountains. There are a couple tennis courts. Large nice gazebo, family use to for family portraits with a beautiful large pond in background. There is a special rose garden to enjoy. The Bell Tower is one of 7 in country ( world?). During the summer, there a Bell Tower concert, which sounds like church bells making music not simply ring a bell.
My son and I like to share lunch together at the park. The park has a host of kritters: squirrel, geese, ducks, birds galore. Sitting under the shade of large trees, feeling a nice breeze... you're relaxed and more like " yourself" by the time you finish your lunch. Picnic tables, with shelters care available throughout the park.

Great places to take a run, bike ride, walk your pet, or to take a nice and peaceful stroll thru the botanical gardens while listening to the bells that ring in the air with a beautiful sound of music. Washington park is a great place for weddings, family events with a wonderful venue within the park and a gazebo. Also if your looking to have a large event it is also a great places for that with lots of free parking areas. There is a full tennis court if that is something that you enjoy doing. I was adopted and my new parents were the managers of the Catering services held in the downstairs area; our living quarters were upstairs. I feed the ducks at the main pond...went fishing there and also at the lower pond area. In roughly '58-'59 we went to Europe on holiday and were privileged to go to the manufacturing area where the bells were being made for the Carillon bell tower for Washington Park! They were from tiny bells to GINORMOUS size and they had and still have awesome tones. Kudos to all of the parks and recreation areas and golf courses in Springfield IL !!!
