Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site is Louisiana’s oldest state park, built around a preserved 19th-century Creole plantation. It’s named after Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem Evangeline, which tells the tragic story of an Acadian girl torn from her love during the exile. The site explores the real history behind that legend—highlighting Acadian, Creole, and African American lives through the plantation home, slave quarters, and sugarcane mill. Peaceful, eerie, and heavy with history, it’s a glimpse into a complicated past that shaped Louisiana forever #photography #southern #louisiana #history #historic #historytok #interesting

Unfortunately there were no guided tours when we went, but we still had a good time. We started with the video in the visitor's center that was very informative and helpful. You get to walk through both floors of the house and it is furnished. It looks like they had a cabin, but a storm destroyed it :( It was a nice walk around and the people we ran into were very nice and knowledgeable. They have a super cute cat named Leo too!

It was a good experience, my first plantation experience. The lady at the desk was extremely pleasant. A nice touch is that they have mosquito/bug spray if you forgot yours. They also have cold water bottles available for $1 if you need a drink. The entrance fee is also extremely reasonable and a great value. Definitely take the opportunity to visit if you have the chance.

e loved our trip to this historic park. Our tour was guided by Mary, who was passionate and exceptional. She did an amazing job of enlightening us on Evangeline, Creole history, the Acadians, butterflies, architecture, medicinal benefits from plants grown, and much. much more.. We were very pleased with our trip and learned considerably more than we knew about this area of Louisiana and its unique history. Truly worth a trip by this park. Being a fan of Longfellow's poem from childhood, I was still just as entranced with the...

Not much to explore. The historical video is white-washed and romanticizes the old south. The video segment of the tour is offensive, giving a historical narrative of a glossed over ownership of other human beings, focusing on the owners and their glorious and rich history, implying an 'acceptable' slave tale- as though they were treated well or happy. They were slaves. As in beatings, rape, cruelty, long hours, harsh conditions, hard work, and no pay. Historical accuracy of the video is deliberately negligent....

Hostess at front desk very nice. Offered us a film to show history of Longfellow. Our group all seniors but I still donated $20 for 2 bottles water and bought two books, "Evangeline" one for me and one for my sister. Very interesting. Thank you for continuing to perserve history. Yes, slaves were shown in film but I am not offended. That depicted life in days past. We can't and shouldn't erase what happened in the past. Show past issues so history...
