We had been driving for hours in our motorhome looking for a place to pull off. Every rest area from cocoa to here was slam packed with tractor trailers. They packed the car side, as well as, the rv side. Made it so you could barely get through. We had our kids with us, so staying in a secured location was important for us. My husband was too tired to continue, so we pulled off. I know it says overnight is prohibited, but we didn't want to cause an accident, risking our lives and others, while driving in what is essentially a cardboard box on wheels. It was after midnight and we pulled into the furthest site possible and it had to be the car side, because once again, tractor trailers packed the other. We were actually able to get some rest until 7am. No one scared the crap out of us, knocking on our door. I really appreciated that, I'm a disabled veteran with pts. I understand we weren't suppose to stay that long, but im grateful we were able to. I will mention though, if you have a cat allergy, benedryl up. I counted over 20 laying around everywhere. I bet they have zero rodent issues. For us, it wasn't an issue. Thank you. (I understand dot rules...
Read moreThe visitors center was clean, lots of parking, vending machines well stocked. I'm a single woman RVer and stopped for the night...HOPING to get a little sleep. There was a truck at the end of the lot with no one around, myself and another RVer parked there because it was away from all the big trucks and quiet. I was asleep about an hour when a truck driver puller right beside be and kept his motor running right outside my window...It woke me up. After about 1.5 hours, I went out and asked him if he was going to let his truck run all night...and that the 2 RVs parked in the distant part of the lot because it was quiet. He said that his truck never shuts off, that he lives and works in it and if RVers want to sleep, they should go to a campground. We both ended up moving our RVs in the middle of the night. I understand truck drivers are working and need to pull over to rest, but there is no reason to be rude and park right beside RVs that are obviously sleeping when there are many open spots where other trucks will also be...
Read moreOn our drive south we stopped at the Georgia Welcome Station when entering Georgia from South Carolina and thought it was the nicest welcome center I’ve been to. So heading back north we stopped at the northbound welcome center after leaving Florida.
It’s nothing special. Nothing is wrong with it but it’s just your average welcome center. It has nice bathrooms, lots of brochures, and has workers there to answer any questions you might have. Outside you find many picnic tables both in the open and under pavilions. There are lots of areas to stretch your legs or walk your dog.
I have to say that the southbound welcome center got my wife and I talking about taking a trip to the northwest part of Georgia to explore and to hike. The northbound welcome center was what we needed; bathrooms and to stretch our legs. I did like the torpedo outside the entrance. I’ve never seen a real torpedo so it was kinda cool but not sure it’s the best welcome...
