There are stories of the Dakota people, traders, explorers and settlers. Did you know the state capitol was to be in St Peter instead of our capitol in St Paul? Something happened where the capitol wasn't built there. You'll learn about the treaty called the 1851 Treaty of Traverse des Sioux. Go and visit the Nicollet County Historical Society and learn about Minnesota. My friend and I arrived half an hour before the place closes. There's so much to see. We enjoyed ourselves a lot....

I am born and raised in St. Peter and now we raise our children here. Nicollet County has a rich Native American history that predates white settlers. This museum is disproportionately white history. I took my children there, who like myself have Native American ancestry, and was disappointed with the lack of Native artifacts and story telling to communicate and educate how important this area is to...

Interesting historical museum, we had a small group that took a tour of the museum with Cindy as our guide. She did a wonderful job in the exhibit halls and outside on the Traverse Trail. The Dakota history is educational. We especially enjoyed seeing the corner with the farming exhibit because we are from the Swan Lake area. Really neat, not to far off the beaten path, park. The amount of history ot this site is almost hard to fully appreciate. For thousands of years this site was of great importance for those that depended on it. Unfortunately for koda the trails were not to accommodating. The river has claimed about 95% of the park currently. But if you want to learn some of minnesotas history, this place is a great stop!
