El Mazatlán – Saint Peter, Minnesota
A special thank you to Alejandro our waiter who was amazing! And Jose and Jordan the managers who checked on us multiple times during our meal. Step aside, Broadmoor. Kindly bow out, Chick-fil-A. Because nestled in the heart of Saint Peter, Minnesota, there exists a culinary sanctuary so vibrant, so soul satisfyingly delicious, it quite literally redefines what it means to dine out. Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the crown jewel of Mexican cuisine in the Midwest: El Mazatlán.
From the moment you walk through the doors, it’s as if you’ve been invited to a family fiesta where every dish is made with the kind of love your Abuelita would cry over. But don’t let the warm smiles fool you this team doesn’t just meet expectations… they incinerate them in a blazing fajita skillet.
Before a single bite touched my lips, I was already swooning. The service? Immaculate. The staff doesn’t just treat you like royalty they treat you like their royalty. The kind of VIP treatment that makes Chick-fil-A employees look like grumpy TSA agents. Every detail, from the glistening lime-studded margarita garnished with a fresh orchid, to the server who made sure every salsa refill came before we even had to ask, was choreographed like a five-star ballet… but with guac.
Let’s talk flavor. Let’s talk fireworks.
Fajitas Platter: A sizzling symphony of textures and taste. Tender carnitas, grilled shrimp, smoky grilled chicken, and a cut of beef so rich and perfectly seasoned, it deserves its own national holiday. The onions and peppers? Caramelized to a whisper soft bite that hit the palate like a love letter. You could smell this masterpiece from the next zip code.
Combo Plate: A classic that punched way above its weight. Creamy, soulful refried beans, fluffy Spanish rice, buttery avocado slices, and crisp lettuce balanced with bright pico de gallo it was the edible definition of harmony. Not a single component was an afterthought.
Mega Margarita: Imagine if joy had a flavor. That’s what this drink was. Crisp, cool, tart-but-sweet, and served in a goblet big enough to bathe a chihuahua. The flower on top? A perfect whimsical touch.
Fried Ice Cream: This dessert didn’t just end the meal it elevated it to a spiritual experience. The crunch of the cinnamon shell, the cool creaminess of the vanilla ice cream, the chocolate drizzle dancing over clouds of whipped cream... I could’ve sworn I heard angels sing.
Chips & Salsa: Even the opening act was a show stopper. Fresh, warm tortilla chips with a salsa that had just the right kiss of heat. It whispered, “I love you,” with every dip.
I’ve dined at The Broadmoor. I’ve raised glasses in candlelit steakhouses and toasted engagements in mountain resorts. But El Mazatlán? It blew them all out of the water with a tortilla in one hand and joy in the other. It was more than a meal it was a moment.
Whether you're a weary traveler looking for comfort or a local searching for the holy grail of Mexican food, look no further. El Mazatlán is a five-star cultural celebration a place where the food hugs you back, and the staff makes you wonder if you accidentally walked into heaven.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If I could give it 10 stars, I’d throw in the whole constellation.
¡Buen provecho, Saint Peter. You’ve got a legend in...
Read moreWe decided to eat at Mazatlan after church on Sunday July 6. What a treat! It was the best restaurant meal I've had in AGES!
I ordered the El Jarocho. The meat, peppers, onions were expertly seasoned without being overly salty, just full of flavor. The scallops were done to perfection--not overly cooked/tough. The Mexican rice had a hint of flavor I don't recall experiencing before and was wonderful. My husband and I saved half of our meals to take home so we could share a fried ice cream. So glad we did--it was huge and the best I've ever eaten. The outside was very light & crispy and the ice cream was perfect hardness. It was served in a crispy fried tortilla shell and topped with chocolate drizzle and plenty of whipped cream. We left about 1:30 and the place was full. "We WILL be returning," we told manager, Jose, as we left.
At the risk of enticing more people to venture in and create lines that stretch out the door, this place has excellent food, plentiful friendly staff focused on service, and a menu full of tasty-looking options to try next time. But it will be hard to pass up another order of...
Read moreI'm an Uber driver. I was taking a passenger from the Minneapolis. Saint Paul International airport down to Saint Peter. I passed this restaurant off the highway right before I got off at the hotel.I dropped the customer off at. I called the restaurant and they were closing in ten minutes and they were so kind to let me order. I got the enchiladas with pork and the added pepper and onions. So accommodating. I will have to say that was the best pork I've had and I go to a lot of mexican restaurants, but this one had the most tender flavorable pork I have ever had. I hope I will get some rides going that way for now on. I don't want to drive an hour just to get some enchiladas, lol, but that is tempting. The employee at the register that helped me and talked to me on the phone was very, very nice. I hope to stop there sometime...
