Cute state park with a few hidden gems that could easily be missed if not paying close attention. Worthy of the very affordable entrance fee, but please take cash as it’s a self pay system. Please also remember to pick up after yourself and not leave boxes lying around. Lighthouse is beautiful as are the fort earthworks. The stroll to the pier is lovely even if the pier is under refurbishment. Only restrooms I saw was outhouse style, but that doesn’t bother us. Picnic opportunities looked lovely. Highly recommend and would stop by again. Check out our video on our experience on Hammocks to Coasters on YouTube.

We were quick to be in and out because of rain. The fort site is cool for 5 minutes. The light house is gated off from public access and labeled as a private residence. I think they have Rangers stay there while tending to the lighthouse or state park. I was not there long enough to confirm this theory. If you are visiting Maine for a week or less skip this park. If you live here or are visiting for more than a week it's worth visiting but probably only once.

The Fort Point Light is a private residence. When we visited, we paid the senior citizen rate of $1/pp in the box by the small parking lot. House and light (attached to house) is fenced off with a solid white fence about five-feet high. The area facing the water has chain link fence. The buildings are worn, but still photogenic from a distance. Hard to get a shot of the lighthouse and the water since we couldn’t get close enough. Still cute to look at.

Another park with no ranger. I'm not fond of that concept. Too much room for abuse. Just a little pillar with a slot to put in money, but I had a seasonal park pass, soooo. Having said that, it was clean and very tranquil on the day I went. Took a sandwich and a soda that I'd bought on the road and just chilled at a picnic table with a view of Penobscot River. Then walked to the river edge. Really relaxing to watch the water and birds. Few people around. No swimming allowed, way too dangerous. All in all more pleasant...

The park features a lovely small beach area, perfect for walking along or relaxing by the water. There are several picnic tables with scenic waterfront views, all just a short walk from the parking lot. Two restrooms are conveniently located near both parking lots. While there aren't any playgrounds, the park boasts well-maintained lawns where children can run and play freely. For those participating in the state park passport program, you can find the stamp near the loop...
