Read moreWe love visiting PA and always visit national parks and local areas to enjoy the natural Treasures.
We enjoyed Brodhead Creek Park as much as others in the neighborhood. We stopped by Pinebrook Park around 1pm, but it was full. The very polite gentleman at the gate recommended that we drive up about mile to Brodhead and told us that if it's full, we may be able to go in as long as we don't plan to picnic. He also said that fee was $10.00 per vehicle.
As we arrived to the gate, parking was half empty. I politely greeted the man at the gate. The gentleman at the gate with a blank and judgemental expression stared us. I asked politely, it's $10.00 right? He rudely rested his elbows and stuck his head in the window, invading our privacy...and said "it's $10 per person." One would consider this a Threat, and subject to retaliation, but I did not react, because of my Pregnant wife sitting on the passenger side. Nor did I challenge the fee, because it wasn't worth it.
He asked firmly how long you gonna be here? I replied that we are probably going to stay less than an hr. He then accepted our $10.00 and said "then you are fine," claiming to do us a favor by accepting only that amount for having 3 adults and a child in the car. After an hr we took off. We waved goodbye at the gate, and that man did not change his face or a muscle...just an eye contact. We weren't disappointed, just sad.
This treatment is something you see in a third world country. As a Veteran, we are ashamed of the Disgraceful quality of service we are providing to the visitors. I do want to thank the others who take pride in what they do. I hope to see services getting better in the future.
Although, we had an amazing time with the nature, the stream and happy people...
Read moreI am a local resident and I love this park. Especially out of season, when the swarms of out-of-state folk cease coming and polluting. I was so happy when they started charging admission, because the non PA residents used to take advantage of the place, disturbing the peace and leaving behind a ton of garbage. Town had to collect this garbage and pay a waste management company to dispose of it.
And yes, I can totally relate with the frustrated people that work the gates and collect the entrance fee. They are locals, just like me, and do not like how some of the "visitors" treat our town and...
