This is a very small but yet very nice vineyard here in Nelson county. If you're looking for a fancy tasting room/event space this is not the vineyard you want to visit. If you like very good quality wine made from Vidal grapes as that's what The owner Bob Ramsey in his small 2 acre vineyard then this is definitely the place for you. I will say we had a tour from the owner today and it's the first and only time we've had anybody show us how to properly prune the vines prior to them budding out in spring. He then showed us how he processed the grapes and eventually put them in vats for aging. All total he had six white wines available and one white port. Of the six white wines available One was a mulled wine and one was a dessert wine. I will say considering they're all made from the same grape they're very different in taste profile. We wound up purchasing three of his wines and the white port but our favorite was a Vidalfresca.

This winery is a gem that shouldn't be missed, but unless you're looking for it, it is easy to miss. The signage could be better. The moment you arrive, you're greeted by a truly beautiful setting that makes you want to sit and stay a while. The wine itself is fantastic, every glass was a delight. But the real highlight was the winery tour. It's easily one of the best vineyard tours I've ever taken. Budget at least an hour, longer if you ask questions -- but you can also tell Bob to quit yapping and pour (his own words, lol). Our guide, Bob, was a fantastic storyteller who wove together the history and science behind his winemaking in a way that was both engaging and informative. He's not kidding when he says he's passionate about it! Just be sure to pay attention to your GPS, and don't forget to honk (per the sign), odds are Bob is working in the vineyard. You won't regret it.

My girlfriends and I spent time at this great winery today. A few things to know: When you arrive don’t judge because you don’t see fancy bells and whistles as I promise you will not regret your visit! The owners immediately greeted us along with their cute pup “Pickles” Bob gave us a vineyard tour … I have been to many wineries in and around Charlottesville and Napa Valley and never toured the vineyards or had the owner teach you about the process of what it takes to get that perfect glass / bottle of wine. We started our tasting and the wines just got better and better. How many vineyards can you say that about?? Oh and they have a white port … Have you ever had a white port ??? Simply delicious!! Please stop and spend time with Bob , the one man show who spends 10+ hours a day out in his vineyard and stops what he is doing to spend time with his guests.

An Unparalleled Winery Experience, Caihailian Vineyards Bob was absolutely phenomenal, truly an experience, and I’ve visited countless wineries. My family and I initially passed it by and had to turn around, and I am so glad we did.

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality. Bob didn’t simply conduct a tour; he delivered a masterclass. Out in the vineyard, he unraveled the intricate science behind the Vidal grapes, discussing everything from the balance of pesticides and purity of air to optimal sugar levels and the role of sunlight in perfecting the fruit. His explanations carried a rare authenticity that only comes from years of lived experience.

In the tasting room, Bob guided us through the meticulous transformation from grape to wine, describing each stage of fermentation with an eloquence and depth that reflected true devotion to his craft. The tasting notes were exquisite, each sip underscoring the care invested in every bottle. His ability to articulate the nuances of grape and wine is so refined, one could easily believe he holds a PhD in “Winetology.”

This winery is a rare gem, understated in appearance, extraordinary in experience. If you have the good fortune to be nearby, don’t miss it. And if you happen to drive past, turn around immediately it’s an encounter...

Pulling up, we thought we must have been in the wrong place. But Bob appeared and waved us forward. If you're looking for a foo-foo, stick your finger in the air experience, to sip wine and talk about hints of pear and arugula, while you nibble on cheese and wonder what the peasants are doing, this isn't going to be your gig. But, if you want to really understand how wine is developed, how the grapes are managed and harvested, and really learn about the art of wine- making, look no further. Bob is, what I called, a wine nerd. We really enjoyed geeking-out with him .... tromping through the vineyard, picking grapes, pruning the vines ... Bob even tasted the grapes and then crunched the grape seeds and said, " Oh.... looks like we're going to be a week early on the harvest this year!" Amazing! We then sampled 6 different, literal gold and silver medal winning wines. We did all that for $10 bucks a head, and he would have spent the day with us. (Sorry.... but we told him to charge more.) We ended up walking out with a case of wine and an expanded appreciation of the artistry of wine making. If you want that type of experience, I can't more strongly recommend this. Such a good experience! ...
