Lower Pool West — Attraction in Sugar Hill

I have been wondering about this place from Google reviews and photos. So my kids and I set up an adventure to find the dam, the bridge and the goats. When we finally found it, it's quite amazing, we were enchanted by the beauty surround this dam, we learn a lot about the dam and the water level on Cathahochee river which we encountered once raising very quickly while we were fishing at the Settles Bridge. The only thing we are still wondering about is the 11 goats that are just there on the highly restricted area, who owns those goats and why are they there??? 😁😁😁 By the way, we found 2 access ways to find the dam, once from Gwinnett county side, right across the entrance of Buford Dam Beach and the other access in Forsyth county side, near and across the West Overlook. I went today and I understand it’s Memorial Day weekend but there was a line to get into the park backed all the way up to the road. I waited then once we got close to the booth to pay $5 a woman came to the window and told us how much to pay and to use a card no cash. Once she saw we had two tubes in the back she said we weren’t aloud in the water without a life jacket or it’s a $500 fine. She was rude from the moment she walked up to the window. I’ve never been so I went ahead and paid the $5 to get in then tried to find a spot to park… well kids where running in front of my car no parents saying anything or watching them. Couldn’t find a spot either so we left. Maybe I’ll try again on a day that is less crowded and bring a life jacket(wish they put that on...

There is so much so see and do around the Buford Dam area... Great family outing..parks are spacious and well maintained... Most have plenty of parking and picnic areas. Some have swimming area with a beach... There is a $2 per vehicle parking fee which is good for all day and is valid at other parks in the area.. Below the dam is a must see ... Waking trails to try out and has a public restroom... Very popular place for the fly fisherman. . they have goats on backside of the dam. Good place to spend...
