Loved this place. Worth the money.
I was a little confused about the time slots. I recommend calling them for an explanation, but if you're booking online and they are closed, hopefully, this will help.
Booking Tips:
We booked just the ropes course because I was confused about how to book it along with the additional zip lines. The times seemed to overlap, and I didn't want to pay extra and miss out on one of the four ropes courses, which can take about 20-30 minutes each. Note: All four ropes courses finish with a decent zip line, so if the additional zip line bundle is outside your budget, no worries—you'll still be doing four zip lines (or more if you go fast enough and redo one of the courses). You have a three-hour window to get in as much as you can. I also didn't want to book the zip lines outside of the window and turn a fun day into a long, boring wait.
We went on a Sunday. It was a beautiful day, and the ropes course for the littler ones was packed, but the bigger ropes course was completely empty. If I had to do it all over again, I would have booked the bundle and separated the zip line booking about three hours after the ropes course booking. For us, this would have been the 11:30 am ropes course booking followed by the 2:30 pm big zip line booking. We would have had to attend an earlier church service, but it would have been a small price to pay for this awesome day.
Experience:
From check-in to fitting the gear to the instructions (you get to do the course by yourselves with a cool roller system), to doing each of the four courses and drinking water in between, you will not be in the trees for three hours straight. You do a course and come back down, so there's no need to carry a backpack with water. They have coolers on the ground. If the cooler is empty, notify an employee, and another cooler of cold water will arrive within 10-15 minutes. I'm a big water drinker, so I brought my own and left it on the ground. This was no issue. Getting There: If you get mixed up on the way there, which somehow I always do when accessing Memorial Park in Sugar Land, you can arrive late. We planned to be there 15 minutes early and ended up arriving 10 minutes late due to a mountain bike race on the back entrance to Go Ape, which the police shut down. Overall: The place is awesome. I'm 45, weigh about 195 lbs, and am 6'2". My 11-year-old weighs about 120 lbs and is 5'2". He was extremely nervous at first because he doesn't like heights and zip lines, but after the first five minutes, he was loving it, especially when I pulled out the iPhone (I bought one of those phone carriers from Go Ape) and started making videos and taking pictures. Staff and Facilities:
All of the employees are fantastic. They all seem to love their jobs, have great attitudes, are very knowledgeable, and want everyone to be safe and have fun. Really great culture at Go Ape. In Conclusion:
I cannot recommend this place enough. We will definitely be back. The only thing I can't speak to is the bathroom situation. There is a park restroom right next to the end of two of the zip lines, which is right next to the place where you get fitted with the harness. I imagine if you had to go, you could zip down, tear off your harness, leave it on the ground, run to the restroom (which has running water, soap, toilet paper, etc.), and then go back and be refitted. One Last Thing: The rollers at the end of the zip line are a bit tricky. You are given a whistle, so in case you need help, you just whistle. My 11-year-old boy is probably a bit too much like me and has too much pride to whistle for help from an employee, so he sat there for about five minutes trying to figure it out. The trick is to flip the roller upside down and keep wiggling it until it catches the groove to get past the zip line landing pad. It will make more sense when you do it. A lot of rambling, but there are a few nuggets in there that I couldn't...
Read moreIf you're going here, please call them ahead of time and ask if all of their courses are available.
Our group bought 5 "Treetop Adventure" tickets, which includes both the "Zipline Trek" and "Treetop Journey" courses, both of which can be purchased individually. When we arrived at the check-in location, we were told that the Zipline Trek was unable to be used due to construction nearby. We received no call or email about this, but they told us that they just became aware of the construction that morning, and we booked at 9:00 AM so somewhat understandable.
We requested for vouchers for the Zipline Trek so we could come back another day when the course was available. They told us that was not possible. Then, we requested for a partial refund; the cost difference between the 'Adventure' bundle and the 'Journey' courses. This made sense to us since they offer the 'Journey' courses for $40/person and technically that's all we were able to do. We paid $65/person for the bundle, so we asked for $25/person refund. They said not possible. They didn't even offer cancellation and full refund.
Quite frustrating, but we went to do the Journey courses anyways. I want to give a 1-star review due to the frustration, but the actual courses were quite fun and challenging. The outside workers were professional, informed and informing, and friendly. They made sure we were safe and hydrated. The experience aside from the issue mentioned was nice. Just wished we would've been able to do the Zipline Trek, which is what our group was mainly excited for.
We finished early and went back to the check-in center to ask once more to be accommodated for not being able to do the Zipline Trek. The worker said she could only give us a 10% discount, which comes out to $7-8 /person. Again, seemingly unfair considering the cost difference between the bundle and the Journey is $25/person. The manager came and explained to us that we technically only missed 1 out of 5 courses. To me, that was irrelevant because the 4 courses that we did do were all part of the $40 Journey ticket. Even with her logic, we should be compensated 20%, not 10%.
Overall, cool place to have fun. Outside workers have good service. Frustrated that we were unable to do the Zipline Trek, not warned beforehand, not offered a full refund+cancel beforehand, and not offered proper compensation. Please call them before you go or just go to Wimberly Zipline Adventures...
Read moreBy far the worst place to go to for ziplining, I told all my friends/clients/family about our visit here so that they won't make the mistake of coming here. I went with my son to go have fun. First off no one directed us where we were allowed access to so my son asked to go climb in this area but we didn't know we weren't allowed to go in there. We purchased an 1hr 1/2 Zipline, so they told us we get to go on the ziplines only. I'm standing there like ok can you tell me where that is? I clearly have never been there before they tell us to go have a seat and wait by the entrance to the ziplines. My son and I sit meanwhile staff is going back and forth about no one being available to take us to the ziplines. Again we have an 1hr 1/2. We spent 30 min with the intro and sitting. We finally get on the ziplines everything was great until we went a 2nd round. The guy couldn't handle my weight to land softly (5'1 138lbs) the people after me were twice my size. Every landing was rough. And no the wind didn't pick up at that point. I get to the last Zipline flinching when I was going to land because again he gave such a rough landing. I hit my head on a metal rod or bar so HARD!! THAT IT LEFT A KNOT. It was mother's day weekend it's May 29th and the side of my head has been sensitive to brush/touch that area. They said sorry you agreed to bumps and bruises. All this to say. It was the worst experience and I'm glad my son didn't get hurt. They need to have HELMETS if there is a possibility of hitting your head on the equipment. I wanted my money back for the simple fact we didn't get to ride many times and I got hurt because someone wasn't properly trained. Definitely...
