Of all the dog parks we have been to in the greater Houston area, this is #1. For starters, the parking is plentiful (as long as it's not Saturday or Sunday when the cyclists are there in large numbers) and it's free. Then, there are two expansive and well maintained dog parks side-by-side, one for small breeds and one for all breeds. There are plenty of trees and a covered picnic area for shade, and lots of thick grass to keep the mud to a minimum. In the large dog area, there's a good size splash pond for those pups who like to swim, and a few acres of well kept and thick lawn for those pups who love to chase a ball or frisbee. Most people are pretty good about cleaning up after their dogs, but some simply find a chair and let their pups run around, without a thought to cleaning up after them. When it's time to leave, if your pup got a little carried away in the pond or rolling around in one of the few areas where it's a bit muddy, there's a dog wash station on the outside of the fence. If you're up for a nice long walk after playing in the park, there's a huge field, with restroom facilities and a picnic area, just across from the dog park, where you can walk about a mile perimeter trail around the field and against the Brazos river. There is almost nothing not to love about Pawm Springs. Note, they are CLOSED on MONDAY for...
Read moreWe have been going to Pawn Springs for over a year and a half. I have always struggled with the amount of dog poop that is just left in the grass. But overall, it's always been a wonderful park to go to. And the boys always seem to have a good time. Until today. Today we were greeted at the gate to a posse of 4-5 dogs. No owners were there to pull their dogs back so we could get in. As I opened the gate, one dog lunged at my younger dog (just a year), and started growling and barking. Another dog joined in, and both dogs had my dog on the ground and were on top of him, and it wasn't playful. My other dog lost his mind, because he felt immediately threatened and protective of his younger dog brother. He started growling and barking and two more dogs started attacking him. A service dog (he was wearing his service harness) was right there and started attacking one of the dogs too. It was madness. Only the service dogs' owner came over to help. There were people standing around, but no one grabbed their dogs. Once I was able to back out into the gate entrance and get my dogs away, we left immediately. The boys weren't hurt, but dog owners should not allow their dogs to crowd the gate. And they need to follow their dogs around to make sure they are safe. It was...
Read moreThe park is awesome! Its huge. Plenty plenty of room for your dogs to exercise. There is a small obstacle course with good obstacles to teach your mutt how to balance on a thin line and give them confidence. There is a huge concrete dog pool that is great. Did i say huge? Its huge. We walked up with our two Belgian Malinois and the people there at the time acted like we brought an alligator to the park. Nothing happened. But one by one all of the “Fru” people left! And then some cool a$$ kids showed up with their pit-bulls! Thank God, it was good to see some real people there. Everything was great! My mutts slept like babies full of warm milk that night! :) make sure your dogs are up to date on their vacations. I don’t recommend bringing a puppy to the park unless he is three to four months old and has a good immune system built up. The water in the pool is dirty and very warm. Not good for a dog that is still building their...
