Hard to find from any entrance, but well worth the effort. I am no stranger to local, nature exploration, but this place is hands down the most biodiverse habitat I’ve yet seen. The bog area is so well isolated from the surrounding developments, an enchanted, fantasy world starts to build in the imagination. An additional treat are the wet meadows found just beyond, in the powerline easement. . . . and beyond that (up the hill) can be found a lovely pine barrens with all the hallmark species you’d expect. A very rewarding expedition for a budding botanist or casual hobbyist.

Beautiful place to hike with my dog, even when everything is dead. Not sure why the gate is always locked at the Suitland Rd entrance, but you can park across the street on the shoulder and cross with caution. The shoulder is on a curve, however, so absolutely check your mirrors before exiting your car so you don’t end up losing a door. The bog itself is very peaceful, the trail leads to some nice areas/views, and everything is clearly marked so it’s very hard to get lost. If it was more accessible I would give it 5 stars.

A hidden gem near Suitland Parkway. It is a rare opportunity to see carnivorous pitcher plants in the wild.
