According to numerous travel publications, Haulover Nude Beach is one of the world's best nude beaches. That fact is evidenced in its constant presence on their world's top 10 nude beach lists. Considering Haulover just celebrated its 25th year, what seems to continue to impress naturists? Certainly its beauty and Miami location, but its laid back and fun atmosphere has to account for its continued popularity.

What's In a Name? It is believed that Haulover got its name from an early fisherman in the area — a man named Baker — who would regularly "haul" his sponge boat from Biscayne Bay over the thickly wooded dunes to the ocean at this spot. Mention of "Baker's Haulover" appear on maps as early as 1823. The practice was passed along through later generations of fisherman.

What Is the Controversy? The controversy that clings to the area is that of nude sunbathing. Haulover became very popular as a clothing-optional beach when the revenue-hungry county looked the other way as they collected from the fee-paying naturists. However, too little clothing became too much of an issue and a reasonably fair solution was to limit clothing-optional beach access to an 800-yard stretch of the ​1.3-mile beach. However, if nudity or the gay scene is personally offensive, avoid the area.

Where Do You Celebrate National Nude Week? At Haulover Nude Beach of course! During National Nude Week each July, the public is invited to celebrate in the buff at Haulover.

Is it legal? Information presented on this page does not mean that Florida law allows nudity in public places. There is a Dade County ordinance that allows one to expose naked flesh legally and without fear on this marked stretch of beach only.

Can I take my family? The north end of the beach has been partitioned off — out of the view of families and others who do not wish to swim and sun without clothing. Haulover Beach is preferable to close-by Sunny Isles Beach because of its access, parking and expansiveness. So go if you can overlook (and not be tempted to look over) at the buff crowd.

Nude Beach Tips While there are no laws to prohibit cameras or electronics with camera capabilities, nude etiquette demands no pictures be taken without permission. The best beach in South Florida, in my opinion. I need handicap parking and the spots on the beach side are very limited, (max. 20 I would say.) I cannot use the other side because there are steps to climb. I have not been in a while but it used to be that those with Handicap placards could park for free, while others had to pay $7. maybe more now. The beach is patrolled by "Goodwill Ambassadors" which I used to call "morality police". Glass bottles and taking of pictures of others in the nude are of course not allowed except for friends or family members. Officially alcoholic drinks are not permitted , but many walk with their coolers and drinks. Very frequently one can walk to a sandbar and occasionally there schools of small fishes one can walk through without any problem. I have never seen sharks there. The water is crystalline and transparently blue. There are no trees on the beach one needs a sunbrella. Between the beach & the road there is a paved pathway were people rollerblade or bike. There are also a few picnic tables and grills but one has to get there very early to grab one. Showers are outside at both ends as are restrooms. Finally pets are not allowed on the beach. There is no restaurant on the beach. Water,sodas & snacks are sold on the beach -Enjoy the best Florida...

A Perfect Day at Haulover Beach

I recently visited Haulover Beach and had an amazing experience! The beach is well-maintained with crystal-clear waters and soft, white sand. It's a fantastic place to relax and soak up the sun.

What I loved most about Haulover Beach is the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The beach caters to everyone, with designated areas for families and a clothing-optional section for those who prefer a more liberating experience. The lifeguards were attentive, ensuring everyone's safety, which added to the comfort of the visit.

Another highlight was the variety of activities available. From swimming and sunbathing to beach volleyball and picnicking, there's something for everyone. There are also several food trucks and vendors nearby, offering delicious snacks and refreshing drinks.

Parking was convenient, although it can get busy during peak hours, so arriving early is a good idea. The facilities, including restrooms and showers, were clean and easily accessible.
