This was a great trail for day hiking or backpacking. Super dog friendly being in Bend and there is plenty of areas where you're covered by the foliage to help with the heat in the summer. It's about 4.5 miles to the ENTRANCE of the actual Green Lake Campsites. BUT BE WARNED the campsite area spans about another 3-4 miles! ended up hiking about 8 miles before we came across the last sight in the area.

This area is super high traffic so odds of getting a spot on the weekend are pretty rare. We ended up having to disperse camp (which isn't allowed) hidden in the camping zone and left early before any rangers could come reck our trip. No campfires allowed here either which is a downer if you're used to campfire cooking. I was also glad to be in a hammock in this area and the ants were huge and plentiful. Mosquitos are pretty bad on the entire trail as well so...

I have hiked in Colorado, Utah, Scotland, Ireland, Costa Rica, and Spain and this was one of the most beautiful hikes I have ever been on. The hike takes you through a pine forest next to an absolutely gorgeous sylvan river with about a dozen waterfalls. Eventually you approach South Sister on your left and then end at the Green Lakes area with several lakes to choose from. You get the sound of the South Sister waterfall and amazing views of Broken Top that look like you are next to Mordor. The hike itself is not too strenuous based on elevation changes, but it is a long (for me) hike so bring water and some food. I would do this trail again in a...

This is one of Oregon’s prettiest hikes! You have to get passes on recreation.gov the second they become available. Have your credit card pre-entered into their system so you can checkout in less than a minute or they are gone! They only give out a couple hundred passes, which is a crime honestly. There was a couple checking passes turning away people from Seattle, etc who had come a long way to experience it. We hiked the 10 miles out and back and there is hardly anyone on the trails! Beautiful!! Hopefully whoever makes these decisions will open it up to more people to experience the natural beauty of our taxpayer...

Stunning hike! We hiked up the Green Lakes trail and circled back down Soda Creek trail for a total of 13.5 miles. Bring bug spray, sunblock and plenty of water! You will need the wilderness rec passes for this hike. Views of Bachelor, South Sister and Broken Top are amazing, wild flowers were incredibly beautiful, trail follows the river with falls along the way. *Warning! There were some risky river crossings and several downed trees along the Soda Creek trail which led you off trail. It was truly an exceptional hike!
