When you're dealing with a natural phenomenon, you are at the mercy of nature. So if you come here and are disappointed, that's on you. Because, while the draw is to see the Ice, if the ice has waned and you only get to walk 5 feet from 85 degrees to 45 degrees, and you're not awestruck, just go to the nearest outlet mall, bub; nature ain't for you. Now, it was pretty awesome. $5 gets you a brief story about the mine told, in our case, by a young man who gave his spiel over and over again with great voice and humor, and as well rehearsed as he was, he was also knowledgeable and answered all the questions. There was ice, but not a lot, and he explained why, and showed us recent pictures so we could see what it looked like at peak. The "mine" is a vertical shaft note, you DO NOT go into the shaft, and the cold air comes out of the mountain. The shale walls surrounding the hole and the dripping water give it a soothing ethereal feel. We didn't want to go back out -- you can stay as long as you want. Best time to go seems to be May to late June, but if you love science and geological mysteries, or you just want to get out of the heat, this...

A very fun, informative and interesting roadside stop outside of Coudersport, PA! The Coudersport Ice Mine costs 5$ for adults and 2.50$ for children for an approximately 10-15 minute tour of the mine. The tour starts with a brief history of how the mine was discovered and the studies that have been conducted investigating the phenomenon of how the ice forms. The tour then moves into the Ice Mine viewing area and the tour guide is available to answer questions. The young man giving the tour was an excellent, well spoken, and informative young man- well worth tipping! The lady at the register in the gift shop was also extremely kind and helpful. We just loved the staff, it was so nice to see this place being run by such wonderful people! The gift shop was very nice and well stocked. The bathrooms were also very clean! We would recommend this as a nice little stop for anyone passing...

Yep, the Indians came out of this mountain with raw silver to trade with the local white man, the hole thing that got this started! The locals began digging to find the raw silver but instead found ice! Which was the founding of the ice mine. The silver is still there never to be recovered yet, there are still tale tell signs of dig sights all over this mountain for silver deposits.from back in the day.! My uncle has a camp on top of that mountain he had a well drilled down 450 feet at that point they drilled into a cavern filled with water 40 gallons a minute the same depth as the ice mine. Legend has it that this mountain sits on a glacier left over from...

Truly amazing, especially if you can appreciate what a rare phenomenon this is. No water source! The air around seems to just freeze into icicles as a cold breeze gently rises from a 15 foot cavern below your feet. In winter - no ice! But come the summer time, the refrigeration effect begins, and 1° air fills the small room. The young man who gave us the history was very well spoken and engaging. $5? Absolutely no problem - I'm happy to pay it to have this family continue to make this neat place accessible to the public. Bring cash! I'll have to bring more next time and get a sweater!

Such a neat natural wonder to see in person. The gift shop was very charming. It was $5/person for a seemingly small experience but we really didn’t mind the cost. I am glad the recent owners are taking care of it and providing this opportunity for those who wish to see it. The guide gave a brief history of the property and discussed some of their theories before taking us in to see it. Overall, It was a cool stop on a summer day!

I was going threw some old slides from when I was 10 that's 55 years ago. I had to find this. I remember so well to this day. yes it 5 dollars now and back the it might of been a 1.00. It still look much the same and It has to be maintained so what's 5 bucks. People spend lots more on dumb stuff and to smoke or a bottle of water. That 1.00 that my parents paid fo. was worth it.
