This historic site was erected in honor of Mexicos brave first international pilot Emilio Carranza. He crashed near this monument that was funded by Mexican students thoughtful donations. Every year on the second Saturday in July they have a reenactment and celebration for this brave embassator of peace. It is beautiful and you get a calm feeling at this remote location.

Lots of history here. Access by trail and road. Close by the back to nature trail. Batona trail camp close to the monument. There are no actual facilities except a parking lot and some areas to stop and restup. Be sure and google Emilio Caranza for the background of the monument and the history of Emilio.

I had been here before when you were able to park in the dirt area surrounding the memorial.that has been changed but nothing else has. This is an impressive memorial for Emilio Carranza right off the road. It is free to enter and plenty of parking on either side of memorial.

We visit this area often with our dogs. They always enjoy the extended walks we take them on, and we enjoy the simple beauty of the Jersey Pines. The only downside is that the parking area and the trails closest to it are often littered with massive piles of horse manure. I know cleaning up after a horse is not as easy as picking up after a dog, but perhaps the horses could enter the trails just up the road near the railroad tracks to keep the mess away from the parking lot nearest...

I love this monument have been visiting here since childhood the area and trails in this area are beautiful and oh so peaceful. There's a campground that is tent only across the street as well. There is an out house to use its a little walk away from the monument. I visit this area daily and never get tired of seeing it. Remember carry in carry out don't be dirty and leave trash because if you do that's very trashy and locals do not...
