Perfect little tranquil nature park which is great to have on this side of town. However some things to note.
As mentioned in other reviews, no bathroom. I know that may be an issue for some people but it’s good to note.
The trail goes from concrete to gravel just after the play area and around. I would wear closed toe shoes unless you want little bits of rock in your flip flops. There is a sign that says no motorized vehicles, which I’m sure is more towards ATV’s and such but still be aware a mobile scooter may get stuck since the trail is a little hilly.
Park is pet friendly, there is a water fountain with a dog bowl attached at the bottom, right next to the small playground.
The playground isn’t a traditional playground. It has a merry go round, a tunnel, and a little obstacle course for the kids to play on with artificial grass. There is a shaded picnic area by it.
The trail itself is about a mile around. One of the boardwalks goes straight out to Capital Circle and the other goes around to a marshy area with an overlook. Both trails are pretty much shaded. If you walk the boardwalks that will give you a little over a mile.
While it’s quiet, you can still hear a little noise from traffic. I still recommend not walking alone because you can never know these days but no one has been sketchy the few times I’ve been out. Families, a few people just walking the trail and people with their dogs.
Parking lot is small! I wish they made it a little bigger. You can definitely bump into another car if you’re not careful.
There are three picnic areas that are shaded but depending on how the sun is, you would still get...
Read moreVery pretty park and a plenty of shady boardwalks to duck into for a reprieve from the sun, but begging for disaster with how their walking path is set up. Encountered two elderly people stranded today bc the waking path is a sand/gravel mixture. As the path begins at a very slight downhill slope, they didn’t encounter any problems using their motorized chair going down the path, until it was time to turn back. Their chair couldn’t handle the light incline combined with the gravel/sand and they were immediately stuck in the middle of the noon sun, .3 miles from the parking lot. It took teaming up with several kind strangers to get them back to the parking lot safely and it’s anxiety inducing thinking of they had attempted this on a weekday when the park is bound to be much less populated with helpful hands. There should be signs and warnings up about this, bc it can easily happen to anyone in a walker/motorized chair. Also didn’t see any bathrooms, which...
Read more📍 Located in Tallahassee, Florida, Debbie Lightsey Nature Park is a must-visit! 🌳 It offers a little slice of Florida in nature, complete with wood walks and captivating trails. 🦢 Embrace the swamped area's charm while observing cranes, herons, and even alligators. 🐊 The only improvement needed is restroom facilities – perhaps a public bathroom or a portable potty. 🚻 Despite this, it's a beautiful haven well worth your time in the heart of...
