Oct 2025 entry fee was $7.50. The guide is also the antique store cashier; is very knowledgeable with the history. Most of the buildings were brought fro Other areas and they have signs with explanations. I was hoping to see a sign of why it’s called silver city. I visited the kernville museum and they said gold was mined in these areas- even there sign aside mentioned this was a gold mining area- but silver wasn’t mentioned. I wanted to ask the guide, why this place was called silver city of gold was mined, but he was busy… This place has a ton of potential with all its antiques- I think it just needs to be better displayed.

Hopefully he can offer haunted evening/night tours or get volunteers to dress up in cowboy era clothes and do docent tours. I do plan to return and next time bring a lawn chair and coffee and sketch some of these cool buildings. I was hoping they would have had a souvenir section to buy T-shirts, hats, old fashion Soda,...

Stopped here after a gold prospecting trip on the Kern River. The ghost town consists of buildings that were moved to the location in the early 1970s from different mining towns and camps from the immediate area. I had a great time checking it all out. Tons of artifacts and written histories of each building. The guide that gives the presentation to start the self guided tour was fun to talk to and very friendly as well as funny. All in all I'm very appreciative that this place has been taken care of and survived all this time. Definitely worth checking out. Theres also an antique shop that fronts the ghost town and it stocks a ton of local pieces as...

Loved it!!! 5.50 for adults 4.50 for kids 6-12 under 5 free everything is so old some buildings date back to 1850 some buildings are rundown but what can you expect from things over 150 yrs old we had alot of fun it was a slightly creepy with a eerie feel but it added to the fun my husband and I loved it as well as my kids we drove from bakersfield stopping here along with Havilah & Caliente museums and it was a pretty great roadtrip i dont know if I'd recommend driving far just to come here but if your driving by or if you make it a field trip stopping here aswell as the other historical places I'd 100% recommend adding this...

We were brand new to the area and decided to take this route to Death Valley and we're very happy we did. The young lady who gave us the tour of the ghost town was very nice and enthusiastic. And we liked touring the antique shop. I saw a bunch of old tools that I have myself that I've inherited. Is everything there is period and authentic. They also had placards with detailed histories of the different buildings in the town. You could get a feel for how it might have been mining boom of the late 1800s, including the church, saloon, and jail completely made of wood.

The parking lot is a dirt patch that is washing out, just be cautious getting in and out if your car is low. Entrance is $7.50, you get a small introduction on the background of the buildings and why this place exists, ask a few questions, then free to explore. There are some inside "exhibits" that look to have been once thought out but may need a bit of maintenance/sprucing up. The buildings are a bit rundown but its a ghost town so it fits the vision for sure. It was great to step in and get a feel for what it may have been like in the mining days of Kern Valley.
