Definitely worth the time to come here. It’s a little confusing when you first arrive, as 1: parking is not the greatest, 2: the entrance to the trail is not marked, there’s just a bunch of giant rocks at the trail entrance. Once you get on the actual trail it’s not too bad, there is multiple small waterfalls that are worth seeing, some are easy to get too and be close and dip your feet if you wanted too. Once you get to a certain point of hiking up the trail, the path starts to getting hazy on which way to go due to the fact as people have made their own trails, and the actual trail that people should follow is not well marked. After you manage to find the bridge the trail up the mountain is also not well marked due to weather, and some areas are really difficult to hike up or you’re not sure if you are even on the right trail since it’s not marked, but once you figure out where the path is it’s not too difficult to resume the hike. Use your fellow hikers who are coming down to get some insight on where the trials are at. That is very helpful. Overall once you make it to the top of the mountain the view is phenomenal and definitely worth the headache of figuring out where you are going. Make sure to take a right turn once you make it to the top as the sight of the American flag will...
Read moreWe started this hike at Little Egypt . It is completely unmarked , Little Egypt and Devils Racetrack ... You will not see any signage at all . Parking is along the one lane, back road , and we just pulled off to the side of the road . The entrance is on the right side , there are some bigger rocks with graffiti on them . The first portion of the hike is pretty easy , just follow the stream , up to the 3 falls . If you want to continue to Devil's Race Track , keep following along the stream , it gets steep in some points and narrow . Then you will see a small wooden bridge . Go over the bridge and then begin the hike up the mountain . The trail is unmarked , but basically a ton of zig zag paths up the mountain . It took us a good hour or more . Would recommend using a walking stick to steady yourself . It is very steep and I would not recommend it for small children or elderly people . Our teenagers did fine. Once we finally made it to the top , we had to walk to the right for a little ways , and then we saw Old Glory flying ! It was gorgeous at the top , and it was an amazing view ! The hike back down took us 45 minutes . Take water and snacks :) Also ,...
Read moreOption 1: Find an impossible to find gravel road in a very sketchy looking neighborhood. Up to a "parking area" that I didn't feel safe leaving my car. Also if anybody else pulls up there is a chance you will not be able to pull out.
Option 2: An actual parking area. Makes the trail much longer, which is fine. Right next to the interstate, read the reviews which is also fine. Trail is barely kept, then you get to a point a small later to climb over a fence (why? is this not a nature area?). The trail goes over multiple drainage areas (okay fine needed for the interstate I understand), smelt like sewage, tons of garbage. Then you are led to climb down tons of loose rocks, no real trail here, just pipe hand rails leading you. My point is why have even have this as an option if its so horrible, and can't be kept in shape for visitors. Just take it out of the equation.
We made it to the waterfalls (which we discovered was extremely close to option 1) and decided it would be less of a headache to walk back through the sketchy neighborhood. The star is because the waterfalls and stream were absolutely beautiful, but ill never go back...
