Nice place but not enough space to fish. There's only two fishing Piers and several clearings you can get into to fish... For may years one could stay as late as one wanted to which was a good thing,if you were lucky enough you could fish on a pier but you had to get there before the gates were locked at 10 pm. Now you get ejected by 10 pm. Yeap, they will ask you to leave. For years and years we could stay all night and use lights and a generator. Two weeks ago an employee chased my truck down and waved me to stop. He asked if i had a generator in my truck, he had seen it already. I said yes, he told me don't even get it off your truck they're not allowed. So in a place where there's two piers only that is always packed with people how can we fish if there's no safe lit place for it... I've been paying. $100 for the yearly pass for years and now with all these changes I can't fish. I work, evenings are the only times i can go. By the time I get there I have an hour to fish then get kicked out... Worst thing, they won't refund the yearly fee i paid. Instead of building roofs, pavilions they should build piers and put up my lights for safety. There's rattlesnakes, javalinas and alot of other wildlife you encounter at night, especially in unlit areas... Use caution and ask for rule books which they don't provide. Get there early...

This is a nice county park situated along the Arroyo Colorado waterway. We visited in Feb. 2020 for two nights in site C-06. There were only a few campers in our area, however, the park can get busy on the weekend. The best RV sites were 27-34, which are right along the waterway and farther from the entrance our site was C-06. Lots of boaters put in here at the park, and there are two lighted fishing piers. The fishing was slow when we were, but can be quite good. You can fish right from your campsite. Cost is $30/night for full hook-ups. If you're into a longer stay, they have a monthly rate but your actual electrical usage is metered. Staff were great and it was fun seeing huge barges coming up and out of the waterway. No issues with security. They have a couple of gates to regulate entry and exit. There are not many options for camping in this area, and I think this is one of the best locations, especially if you're into fishing and/or birding. We saw dolphins in the channel both days and large tugs with barges go by. We loved this place. There are two bath houses, but we did not use them. We got really great cell signal on our ATT hot spot with 4 bars. Verizon was 3 bars. If we are in the area we will...

Camped in a 35” motorhome. We are self-contained so cannot comment on restrooms/shower facilities. Overall – the views and birding more than made up for the cons. We will return.

Pros – Some sites have view of waterway - check satellite imagery if this is important to you Great variety of beautiful birds Near Laguna Atascosa Very friendly staff – seem overworked Sites are spacious – our site was not level but were able to use blocks to get it level. Not putting this in cons as it appears most of the sites are very level. Good Verizon and T-Mobile cell and i/n connectivity Full hookups

Cons – Lots of traffic – trucks with fishing boats going back and forth and over speed bumps at fast rates creates lots of noise – very early morning to late evening Trash at campsite – we had to pick up paper plates, cups and other debris left by campers Trash all around park – sadly, even though this is a small campground there is trash left by the many visitors – people...

We camped there with a hybrid travel trailer. We camped right on the river, near one of the two lighted fishing piers. We camped during the spring break for the local schools so there were a lot of people there. Everyone was very friendly. Warning, there are campsites that are across the road from the river so those people will walk through your campsite to get to the river. That is the way it is so do not get upset at anyone. New is online reservations. Large campsite with full hookups, reasonably priced. The park is within the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge so be warned not to remove or molest the wildlife, especially the snakes. I wasn't going to molest the snakes. We enjoyed and recommend. (there is no cell phone service there)
